[spoil]ned stark's fate taught me not to get too attached to any of the characters in the book. i respect it when an author isn't afraid to kill off a major character. or two.[/spoil] :)

alasdair
I agree. Def made me think twice before hoping for the fairy tale expectations of the 'good characters'.

Right now, here's the characters I think the writing is on the wall for their lack of a happy ending.

[SPOIL]
Cersei & children: "Gold shall be their crowns and gold their shrouds," she said. "And when your tears have drowned you, the valonqar shall wrap his hands about your pale white throat and choke the life from you."

Stannis: "Robert was the true steel. Stannis is pure iron, black and hard and strong, yes, but brittle, the way iron gets. He'll break before he bends."
[/SPOIL]

Really, don't think they will survive.

I'm also expecting [SPOIL]House Greyjoy[/SPOIL] to crash hard. [SPOIL]Euron is psychotic. He (probably) already killed Balon. It is strongly implied that he sexually molested Aeron. And Victarion and Euron have bad blood between him. Then there's Asha's (implied) crazy plan to use Theon to negate the Kingsmoot. There's no way everyone will survive. I suspect Euron will fall, but not before taking out a few of his kin.[/SPOIL]

And I know [SPOIL]Tyrion is the author's favorite[/SPOIL] but really, at this point [SPOIL]he has very few friends, and plenty of enemies. I'd be a little surprised if he survived.[/SPOIL]

well, i agree with you about the first one. [spoil] the lannisters will pay their debts, won't they? i assume tyrion and jamie will survive, but only because tyrion is too smart to be killed except by accident, and I think jamie knows what a sinking ship when he sees one, and has no reason to run even farther into cersei's mess. Cersei and her fake Baratheons are totally doomed though/[/spoil]

i disagree with you about [spoil]the greyjoys. theon is still sort of alive, isn't he? after months, a year?! of torture and other horrible atrocities. Asha was hit in the head with an axe while she was with She Bear and still lives. I'm counting on her to kill Stannis Baratheon and escape with her brother back to the smoking pile of rock known as the Iron Islands and ascend a throne of bones after Euron kills everyone. QUEEN ASHA![/spoil]

other characters that i don't expect to survive the next book:

[spoil]Melisandre. With her King dead and her prophecy "wrong", what is she living for? who is she serving? what purpose does she serve in moving the game of thrones forward? answer: not much. killer?: Bowen Marsh.

alternatively: she serves a huge purpose and resurrects Jon Snow from the flames and viola, Prince who will be Promised.[/spoil]

HOLY SHIT HAD TO INTERRUPT THIS TO SAY

rumors are spreading that Iwan Rheon will be the Bastard of Bolton! I CANNOT BELIEVE THIS. HBO confirms that he will be playing "Boy". "Boy" who [spoil] was on the GOT set flaying Theon Greyjoy. [/spoil]

not really what i imagined, you know what i mean?

also who i think will bite the dust: [spoil]Barristan Selmy, Both Reed siblings, Brienne of Tarth, Gendry Waters, Sansa Stark, etc.[/spoil]

Here's how I see it in the short term: [SPOIL]Victarion provides a mechanism to get Dany & Dothraki to Westeros. The question is, where do they land first... If Victarion, Dany & dragons go to the Iron Islands, I expect Victarion to have strong backing to the throne - assuming he survives. If not, will the Ironborn follow a lady? And heck, Theon is still a contender, and he has taken a big level in "doesn't give a shit", as long as the Boltons aren't around. (But Theon is crippled, which is probably almost as bad as being a woman to the Iron Islanders).[/SPOIL]

[spoil]Melisandre. With her King dead and her prophecy "wrong", what is she living for? who is she serving? what purpose does she serve in moving the game of thrones forward? answer: not much. killer?: Bowen Marsh.

I think she plays a roll in making [SPOIL]Jon a little less dead.[/SPOIL] But who says [SPOIL]Stannis has bought it? Only the letter. And Stannis warns about rumors of his death.[/SPOIL]

also who i think will bite the dust: [spoil]Barristan Selmy, Both Reed siblings, Brienne of Tarth, Gendry Waters, Sansa Stark, etc.[/spoil]

I think [SPOIL]Sansa has a chance to survive. She's not in any grave danger now, and she's learning the game from Littlefinger. I wouldn't be surprised if Sansa was the one who kills Littlefinger in the end. Barristan, OTOH, I agree with - his story is over. If the gods are kind, he'll go out defending a Targaryen. As for the rest, I think it's a coin toss - except for the Reed brother. Things aren't looking good for him.[/SPOIL]

^ better is subjective. if you've watched 19 episodes and you don't like it, then's it's probably not for you... for many people, it got better about 18.5 episodes ago.

I felt lukewarm after the first season. Felt like things really picked up in the second season(as they did in the second book.)
Don't get me wrong season/book 1 had its fair share of moments. Just not as gripping as season 2/COK's. But yeah, if you're 19 episodes in and not feeling it, try a different HBO show. There's a few current good ones and a few past great ones available on dvd/HBOGO/etc.
That actor looks like a fine choice for The Bastard of Bolton. He doesn't fit the characters description in the book at all. But I could never picture him the way he was described in the book. Pictured more of a slender, hungry looking guy with the evilish/cold look of his father.
Regardless, it's nice to know that they aren't going to cut out one of the more interesting and vile characters from the books.
NSFW:
I would feel cheated if we didn't get to see the scene in which Roose Bolton chides Ramsay for being so indiscreet with his "amusements." And the following ride along chat between Roose and "Reek." Good stuff.

I was told to watch this by many people, but wasn't really keen as I had been told mixed reviews, once passed the 1st few eps something grabs you and makes you want to watch more.
Did though get a little confused between some of the action but non the less .. fucken epic and worth watching. Can't wait to see what Season 3 brings ..

I started up reading asoiaf again after a little break from the books (had like 200 pages left in the second book up until 2 days ago), but started reading again and got to about 200 pages into the 3rd book. So another couple of hundred and I'll be finished with all that will be in the the upcoming 3rd season of game of thrones. Though I should be finished with all five books, or I plan to be by the premier of the new season, but who knows what will happen between now and then. The book can be so frustrating with the individuals I root for always seeming to be given a bad hand and those I want to rot always ending up on top, but still loving the read.

^That's part of what makes the books so great, IMO. George RR Martin does not play favorites and the good, honorable folk tend to get eaten alive by the cunning. The Game of Thrones.
The more calculating, duplicitous characters may prevail for longer than any of us would have liked. However, some of them(not naming names) get their comeuppance. Whether it's through realization of their wrongdoing and the self loathing that comes with that, ruination as a result of their suspicions run rampant, or plain old physical punishment or death.
For some of them it comes. Still waiting on others..... I hope that's cryptic enough as to not give anything away.
