Fucking great episode.

Cersei is such a fool and Joffrey is a coward which isn't new really just thought I'd point out the obvious.

I really liked that scene between the Hound and Sansa. "The world is built by killers." Very cool.

NSFW:
Was it a member of the Kingsguard that attacked Tyrion towards the end there? Why the sudden betrayal? Is his reasoning explained in the books?

Edit: Probably an order from Cersei. Kill my brother if the battle should turn against them type of deal. Or perhaps it was a matter of vengeance because of him sending her daughter to Dorne.

what a great fucking episode. GRRM needs to write more episodes! I will petition to get more 'drunk Cersei explains it all' scenes, damnit.

was this the first episode with Pod in it? I feel like it was.

and my god Sansa and Sandor Clegane! I am soooo glad that their scene wasn't erased or skipped over or anything. One of those reasons in the book that made me really really dislike Sansa. Why wouldn't you go with The Hound? He's saved your life, he's protected you from your douche bag intended, and he's never been cruel to you. He's offering you a chance, a great chance to escape. He would bring you to Winterfell. Ugh fucking Sansa. Now I'm irritated all over again. I have to give it to the TV show though. I never would have thought I'd end up cheering for Sansa, ever, but I am. I enjoy the show Sansa way more than book Sansa/Alayne.

But I must admit, I like The Hound better when he hangs out with Arya in the woods, yes?

I really like Sansa & Tyrion's scenes too. Look at Tyrion trying not to laugh! They could have been great allies, silly girl.

I will no longer deny it. I have a fucking crush on Daddy Warbucks Lannister. I mean ye gods what a badass. Look at that fucking swagger.

random side note for nerds: did you notice Loras Tyrell wearing Renly Baratheon's armour when he burst in on Cersei? Because he is and man, all the feels.

That was Loras? I got him confused with Lancel, sorry to say.

Episode had so many great moments; the Hound and Joffrey's quivering lips almost stole the show.

One thing that I was surprised at was the role of Stannis; in the books he's well away from the fighting, while here he was in the thick of it. This was a change I really liked; Stannis getting dragged away from King's Landing by his own men in despair was a great, human touch utterly lacking in the book's Stannis, and instantly shot him up to one of my favorites in the series (as opposed to the books, where I care little for him).

Re Freddy47:

Though the books never go into much detail about it (IIRC), what happened to Tyrion was indeed a set-up.

@Belisarius

Makes sense. In some ways Tyrion reminds me of your namesake Belisarius. Does countless things to help and does it well, but doesn't get recognized for it by those in charge. Lord Tywin is probably going to get all the credit for how this battle went. I have a feeling that things will not go well for Tyrion. :(

Those were his, all right; Lannister helmets are hideous and unmistakable, while Stannis's army has simple metal bowl-type helmets.

Re Freddy:
Ah, but Belisarius's problem was that he got *too* recognized. It didn't pay to be a popular commander around any Roman emperor. [/end history geek]

Yes, it was a Kingsguard member that tried to kill Tyrion.

In the books, Tyrion seems to think it's Cersei. Presumably it was Cersei or Joffrey who was able to command a Kingsguard to attack Tyrion. Joffrey doesn't seem to have the self control needed to formulate a plan, so I'm guessing Tyrion's plans are right. But hell, maybe it was Littlefinger or Varys who ordered it for their own devious plans.

Touché my friend. ;) I realize the comparison is a bit of a stretch lol

What I should have said is Tyrion is feared by those in charge much like Belisarius was. In this case I would say Cersei plays the role of jealous/vengeful(?) Justinian.

It must have sucked to be a general back in those days. Popularity often meant either a death sentence or a sure fire way of becoming emperor yourself. Neither choice sounds that appealing to me haha.

Actually, very good chance it was Lysa Arryn. Unlike Joffrey with the Valyrian steel comment, nobody really gives anything away regarding how Mandon Moore came to attack Tyrion. Mandon Moore is from the Vale.

Best episode yet! fucking love it. Tyrions the man and will gain his feet again. Pissed Sansa didn't leave with the hound up to the north. That would have meant both Arya and Sansa were headed home allowing the Starks to regain their breath a little once they find out the truth about whats up with winterfell (bran and rickon still being alive).

I'm still working my way through the first book, but I'm loving it.

I've spent more time thinking about this and (book series spoilers)

NSFW:
It seems to me that if someone was capable and in King's landing, Tyrion would have died "of his wounds" during recovery. He did not. Since Petyr is around after the Battle of the Blackwater, it seems to rule him out.

Cersei is still a contender, except that in her PoV in the later books, she never thinks of Mandon Moore, even though she thinks of Tyrion more than a few times.

The Storm of Swords strongly indicates that Lysa knows who was responsible for Jon Arryn's death, and it isn't Tyrion.

Which leaves Joffrey. Even as king, with Tywin there, he doesn't have the power to off Tyrion openly, and he doesn't have the skill to do so quietly.

Or, of course, maybe Mandon Moore did it himself. Maybe as a Kingsguard, Mandon Moore overheard Joffrey say something like "who will rid me of this toublesome uncle?" :p
