the most expensive scene is yet to come, and honestly, i don't care. this series is trying to take thousand page books and stuff it into a season, and they are doing brilliantly. i'll go with scene splicing if it means we get more depth (like arya) with other things. i don't need to see every battle, i know battles. shouting and noise and shaky cams. i think they've done great with a 5mil/episode budget, i'd like to see someone else try.

it wouldn't be so bad if they weren't teasing the audience with details only to withdraw them, shutter them away and replace it with more of characters alluding to the aforementioned details while talking tersely with each other. if HBO didn't have the money to do it right they should have passed it off to the BBC from whom putting a stageplay on TV would not be so out-of-character.

this show ain't about battles (and neither are the books). battles are overrated and boring imo. i'd rather they focused on actual stories and character interaction. wouldn't mind some more sword fighting and small skirmishes though.

Oh Daddy Lannister Warbucks, love me

besides that, this episode was a Cersei one for me.

Everything about Cersei in this episode, and Sansa!

almost had me crying, no fucking lie. this whole scene with Tyrion and his sister and her confession. What a powerful scene! Not just that, but Sansa this week! Why can't Sansa be like this all the time?

if the Queen sees! help me flip it over!

and Jamie!
is that a woman!? aye and she's more of a knight than you'll ever be! No Stannis, no Asha, no Crows, this week, and did we get a flash peek at Howland Reed as Bran & Rickon ran away?

I think the digressions from the books are meant--perhaps ironically--to hold the interest of people who do know the books, so there's always an element of uncertainty for both neophytes and "old-timers".

It was an okay episode, though I will say that I like this Ygritte much more than her character in the novels. Of course, I have a thing for redheads. I'm also getting the niggling suspicion that "the most expensive scene" mentioned earlier will be a cliffhanger finale.

I'm thinking the Blackwater is going to be the most expensive scene this season.

As for scenes (3rd book spoilers):

NSFW:
In this episodes conversation between Tyrion and Cersei, when they are discussing Joffrey's difficulties, I was surprised that Tyrion didn't strongly imply or outright state that everyone would be better off if Tommen was king. That would give Cersei more reason to accuse him after the events of book #3.

Oh, and agreed on Ygritte. She's an entertaining character. Give her more screen time and less to Robb & whats-her-name.

Jamie was also excellent this episode.

Decent episode.

NSFW:
In the middle of the episode I was almost rolling my eyes at Daenerys. I know the dragons are so so important and she lost her two maids/friends but come on. Do you think Jamie would react like that? Ygritte? Fuck, even Sansa? "I don't care where you've been!" ::STOMP STOMP STOMP STOMP:: I almost expected a door to slam. 8) I think I'm starting to stop caring about her struggle. :\ I should read the books so I like her again. I really enjoyed the Ygritte/Jon and Ayra/Tywin conversations this week. Oh, and the throat cutting scene was pretty crazy.

You have to remember her age though. She's even younger than Sansa if the lore is followed correctly.. but I agree. The histrionics were a bit much

On an unrelated topic, what happened to Bryndon Tully (The Blackfish)? I remember him being one of my favourite alt. characters from the books.

NSFW:
Fellow Blackfish fan here, but I suspect he's another one they're going to leave on the cutting-room floor. Note the major change from the novels already, in that Jaime's captivity is at some field camp rather than at Riverrun itself (which note, we've not seen in the series yet).

NSFW:
Ah, that makes sense. Thanks for letting me know she's so young. I looked it up their ages. In the books she's 13 and in the show she's 15 when first introduced. Sansa is 14. I guess I just find mouthy teenagers annoying because Sansa is awesome. :)

Agreed that the Blackfish doesn't appear to be making the HBO series. Oh well...

Now, if they leave out the Red Viper next season, that'll suck.

Book #3:

NSFW:
Even though as far as the series goes, he's not that irreplaceable, considering that all he does is fight the Mountain and dies...

Anyways, speaking of leaving things out.

Book #2 + massive spoilers?:

NSFW:
I'll see if Rhaegar is in the next episode. It's in the House of the Undying, it seems, so Dany's visions should include him if they are true to the book. I hope so, considering it may hint to Jon's parentage and the whole A Prince that was Promised mythology.

Sooooo...... What did everyone think about Catelyn Stark releasing the Kingslayer in return for her daughters???? Is it: Honorable via taking the moral high ground??? or Is it treason as it went against the King's (of the North) wishes and weekend their position.

I'm going with the latter. Also, Catelyn thinks she is getting both her daughters when actually Arya is elsewhere. [Edit} She's on her way out of Harrenhal.

Wasn't an intense episode, but I really did enjoy the break from all the intensity. The last two episodes had me cringing and filled with bit of anxiety (not saying they were bad, quite the opposite), I needed a break from all that and watch the some of calm before the storm.

I'm hoping I'll be receiving some of the books in actual book form soon. I'm getting tired of trying to read them on my comp. Also when I go on vacation, the last thing I want to lug around when I want to read is my computer.

Robb has every reason to be pissed. Jaime was an asset. Sansa and Arya are good as lost. And the whole point that the guy next to Robb was like "I lost my son, don't you think I'm pissed too? VENGENANCE!!! Grrr." Catelyn really showed her weakness (not that you can blame her), but yeah ...this will be the North's undoing.

And Theon is weak. Sooo weak.

the beauty of Haslem finally finding his jump shot again is that when the pick and pop is working, the Pacers can't double and triple-team Wade and Lebron, and that lets them go off in the paint. That's why Bosh has been so sorely missed: because he can dismantle defenses by making those jumpers.
