Highlights:
*Ms. Tyrell's "I want to be the queen. Wonderful touch to a character who's much harder to fathom in the books.
*The scene between Arya and Tywin was masterfully suspenseful, and played perfectly by both.
*I was kind of iffy on this Jaqen H'ghar at first, but now I'm fully sold.

Oh, and as one of the few posters who hasn't read the books, Marissa's posts are always fun to read. :)
haha thanks!!
jaqen, that's the white streak dude?
honestly this thread is the only thing keeping me aware of names tbh

I loved the scene with the exchange between Tywin Lannister and Arya. Very well done!!

".....No my Lord. Anyone can be killed." - Arya -The look she gave him. Priceless!!

she is so fuckin bitchin
Why did Boromir have to get wacked early again, whyyyyyyy!
lmao yessssssssssssssssss
my thoughts exactly last season
</3
he was so much more lovable here too

Well I just got into both the novels/stories and the mini series, though I've heard or known about "a song of ice and fire" for years, as one of my brothers got real into the novels. I started watching the mini-series a month before the second season started, even though I've had the first season in 720p for months and months on my computer. I started reading the novels/stories a couple days ago. I gotta say I'm not disappointed in the mini series or the book series, even with the straying from the books in the mini series. I've never been upset by movies or TV shows being off from the original source, unless it is a clear butchering of the story.

I've been enjoying the second season. I'm excited about the heightened violence from the last season and what not, but really I'm enjoying expanding my understanding of the "world".

Also I've found GOT to show less straight up banging than other HBO mini-series. From what I recall Rome had a lot more scenes purely involving two people going at it. I feel GOT has a lot of sex/sexuality involved in the story in so many different ways, the role of the sexuality in the scenes are deeper than in other HBO series. So in sum, I haven't found it to have to much of sexuality. Honestly I thought they were going softer on the sex scenes compared to other shows. Though I can see that some people will find the type of sexuality/the way it is being expressed to have a problem with the show/novels. There is a lot of rape, incest, etc. that people aren't used to seeing or hearing about, that is supposed to be viewed for the understanding of the stories, so I'm sure a lot of people feel a little awkward watching it happen.

I've spent some time looking online with out spoiling anything, looking for maps, or background info yesterday, as I really started to get into reading the first novel and am trying to figure out locations/wtfigo.
- http://www.sermountaingoat.co.uk/map/versions/speculative_map.jpg <--- cool fan made map (even though this year [Oct I believe] there will be a release of the official maps
- http://www.sermountaingoat.co.uk/timeline/index.php <--- cool interactive use of the map (timeline of events for certain periods)

those maps are cool.
pretty much what i imagined.
except for i imagined kings landing to be like one of the furthest south points, and then the narrow sea is south of the country and then all the dothraki stuff and whatever else is across the sea to be even more south.

i think since GRRM is so involved with the series, i should let go of some of these fears about the book being changed to make it more 'palpable' for television. they haven't changed anyone's gender (surprising, how often this happens, and seriously, can't you see someone just changing Brienne into a man?) disability (would have been so easy to make Tyrion a George Clooney type) sexuality (renly, loras, even Dany's lesbian experiences) or race (Xaro, Khal Drogo, the whole dothraki horde, other summer isle pirate). Now let's see how they deal with a whole nation of people who are brown skinned and eat spicy food from the southern most desert. I'm looking at you, Elia Martell, Sand Snakes, Oberyn Martell.

man i was worried when no one responded to this thread for days! usually it's right after the episode is over! y'all be slippin' ;)

Yeah, I need to come here right after the show! I usually walk away and talk about it with my sister the day after.

Next episode should be amazing.

I admit I've been cheating a little and reading westeros.org's wiki. If anyone wants to read up on the family tree and trying to remember stuff that happened, I definitely recommend it.

I dunno it seems to me that might be spoiler town.

i got some brutal spoilers last season by looking up family's and stuff to try to get shit straight.
it was upsetting.
the whole khal and dragons thing i found out.
gahh

^One reason why I avoid sites like that.

Sometimes I read spoilers without even knowing it. :X

Midway through I'm reading about the Lannister family and next thing you know I find out about Jaime being taken. lol

this thread gave me some spoilers too. i couldn't resist..but i don't know a lot!! just about something that happens to sansa and marriage...but otherwise i can't think of anything else i know that's premature at this point.
a friend told me about something cool dany does in an upcoming episode, that's about it though.

i'm glad. i'm really liking watching things unfold on screen and from seeing that the avid book readers in here are really happy with the adaptations, i don't feel the urge to like look into book spoilers cause i know they're doing a great job interpreting it...more than i can say for true blood :| what a disappointment HBO....i'm scared they're going to fuck this up...i don't think so though. the people on board with GOT seem so much more serious and into the stories.

I also have not read the books yet. Actually reading the first one and about mid way through. They have done a great interpreting it.

I guess I just hate spoilers lol.

I don't think they will fuck this up though. What I am worried about is them cancelling the show because of production costs like they did with Rome. Their productions costs I read are around the same.

Although not impossible, I kinda doubt it. There seems to be much, much more interest and fan support over GoT than with Rome. This series also appeals to a much wider range of viewers whilst still staying (fairly) true to the books. This must have been a very daunting task for the writers, kudos to them and GRRM. My $0.02. :)

i find that if you need to look at anything for stuff like that, try the HBO site and the av club reviews for newbies. those are both really good about spoilers. also the more specific search queries the better. if you want to know dany's history, search for 'targaryen history' and DONT GO PAST THAT DIRECT LINK TO THAT PART OF THE WIKI.

this is much better than Rome, isn't it?

Honestly I don't need to at this point. When I first started the show I needed a few reminders of who is who. But at this point I have memorized faces and names pretty well. Also I find those links awfully tempting so I'd rather just avoid them altogether lol.

lol I'm not gonna make that call yet, too soon to tell IMO. I have always been a huge Ancient history buff and Roman history has always been one of my favorite subjects so I am biased. I think if Rome had been allowed to continue with more seasons it could have been the best HBO show ever.

But as of right now I can see how GOT could be much better.

After re-watching some of these episodes from season 2, people are missing out on the book's more in-depth description of how sansa is feeling. Sansa is kinda just getting mentally and physically beat by Joffrey (they keep skipping a lot of what he has his dog do), but in the book you are inside her head. I think Sansa's character is kinda getting glossed over too much, but I suppose you can't describe it like a book.

In my op, Sansa won't become really interesting until next season, for reasons readers of the books know. For the record, rumor has it that A Storm of Swords will be split into the third and fourth seasons.

Careful, girl.. You're treading into sacred territory ;)

I love Game of Thrones with the sort of passion only a true book nerd can.. but Rome was unbelievable as well. I couldn't imagine life without either of these.

i would fuckin love this show if only i understood what the hell was happening.
did you watch it from the start?

i'm guessing it must be a little confusing as my gf and i watch it together and she's always asking me to pause it and explain who somebody is...

General book spoilers:

NSFW:
There's a theory that House Tyrell is up to something, due to there being no Point-of-View characters for House Tyrell in the books, nor is the Reach really covered until the Iron Islanders raids and a bit about the Citadel.

Considering that Old Town is the seat of the Maesters, and that Maesters are implied to have lead to the end of the Targaryen dragons, perhaps something is going on over there...

i think i'm getting a decent idea of sansa...from her looks. i think you have to be pretty perceptive to the subtle touches within the characters being there's so many and only so much screen time.........
People keeps saying she needs to open her eyes, but that isn’t her problem anymore. Her eyes opened when Joffrey ordered Ser Ilyn Payn to behead her father. Did you miss the part where Joffrey took her out to see her father and septa’s heads and she kept it together? In that part where she was talking to Tyrion after Tyrion saved her from being beaten and Sansa said she loved the king it is obvious she’s lying. Does anyone seriously expect her to say “I hate the king and his stupid lips that look like two worms mating” to the king’s Hand and uncle? Especially in a place like King’s Landing where people like Varys and Littlefinger have ears everywhere. She might as well ask the King’s Justice to lop of her head and put it next to her father’s while she’s at it. And if you couldn’t tell that she was lying didn’t Tyrion’s remark when he said “You may survive us yet” clue you in? He was remarking on how she was able to hide her real emotions behind her courtesy. Now, on to why she is still at the Red Keep- how do you propose she leave? There are guards everywhere and she has no real friends in court to help smuggle her out at this point. The Lannisters are going to do their best to keep her as their hostage- she is the only power that they have over Robb, the King in the North

^yes.

also tonight..when she was like I HATE THE KING to asha.

also..dawwww
