season 1 almost done. that Joffrey is a nasty little cunt. brilliant acting

I just started reading the first book in the series and haven't started watching the show yet.

Question to those who have read the books. Should I finish the first book first and then watch the first season. Or does it even matter?

errr if you're close to finishing the book just finish it! it makes the show much more fun to watch, when you have the info to catch little things the show throws to the book readers.

Haha yeah, straight away i was like.. hang on, that guys from skins!

Also Robert Baratheon (Mark Addy) was Heath Ledger's side-kick in A Knights Tale, looks so much more badass with that beard lol
they have another skins actor!!!
the girl that fattie is sweating that's all incesty.
lolz.
well finally! i'm excited about j'haquen & arya. arya's scenes were surely the best. i was so excited for this episode because finally, THE KRAKEN.

but
ugh

seriously, yara? because osha/asha is too much to remember? from here on out i'm still going to call her Asha because that's her god damn name, damnit. She's my favourite character so of course I'm upset about how she is portrayed. while i was reading her in the books, i expected a severe woman, carved from iron by the salt of the sea. instead she is roundfaced and small like a child. I wanted a long, taut woman, like a bow, with a long, taut face. whatever. WHATEVER. perhaps this actress will win me over. her introduction with Theon was as creepy as I read it to be. I lurched along with that disgusting horse ride the entire way there. Balon is surely winning me over, along with the salty grey of Pyke.

not much else i really cared about once the greyjoys showed up, hahahahaha.
idk i'm glad they changed the name. i can barely keep up with everyone's name to begin with and that would have been a bit confusing.
there's sooo many characters.
be happy they didn't cut one of them instead of just changing the name imo.
i don't like this yara/asha whatever girl. she's really ugly and weird.
idk.
maybe she'll grow on me.

this episode was meh.
WHERE'S DANYYYYYYYYYYYYY???
needs more her, more bran, more stannis (i'm liking him) and more north.
and snow is annoying me this season.
:(
i do like me some tyrion though.

well shit god damn, tonight's show was missing Stannis Baratheon (i guess i really should get used to episodes missing whole characters by now, we also missed Dany & Robb) who i really like but MADE UP FOR IT IN SUPER TIME WITH

wow! this episode i felt was insanely intense from basically the onset forward! i can't even pick out what scene was the best from this episode! was it the introduction of Brienne of Tarth? the baptism/betrayl*/fury of Theon Greyjoy? Margarey Tyrell's casual offer of incest for the sake of duty? Tyrion's little deception game to purge the council and subsequent buddy pact with Varys? Arya? I mean, just everything to do with Arya? Even Sansa had a good scene.

*i'm okay with theon creative leeway the writers gave him because the greyjoys seem like such shitty people most of the time in this show, don't they?

also with arya because it seems to answer a plot question from the books.

best show on television.

Is the buddy pact between Varys and Tyrion the longest lasting and most important one? sure, Varys testifies against him and is forced to help him escape by swordpoint, but he also seemingly does Tyrion somewhat of a favor by getting rid of his uncle Kevan to continue the unraveling of Cersei's rule. Is Varys the most important character to the movement of the whole series? as for arya, wanted more more more more this week with her. i guess i just want anything because i think j'aquen is bees knees and can't wait for more of that story line. av club also brought up that the easy out arya gives gendry with lannister men isn't in the books, but ties up that really nicely, don't you think?

random thought: can't wait to see dorne, whenever that happens. next week?? week after??

Ok so I just finished watching the first season. Fucking great show so far. The Imp and Arya are my favorite characters so far. Jon Snow and Eddard Stark are also awesome although I gotta say it feels like more and more that Sean Bean gets typecast all the time. Or maybe he just likes playing the everything for honor type all the time, either that or he plays a bad ass bad guy.

On a side note I haven't laughed so hard watching an HBO series in a long time. "I milked my eel in my sisters turtle stew." I seriously almost fell off my chair laughing.

I'm actually a little disappointed with this season.
It's not as exciting to me as the first.
I'm hoping it will pick up a bit......maybe they're working up to the good stuff??
This last episode was better than the first two but :\ - could be so much better.
Someone give me a spoiler on when I can expect to see that little asshole Joffery die! :D

Yay I'm not alone. Ocean I've been thinking exactly the same thing. I guess this book does seem to also be a bit slower than the first. Hopefully this is all saving money in the budget so we can get some interesting, high action seens soon! No one spoiler please, still reading the second book.

wow! that episode was surely the roughest one yet. i mean, Harrenhall? so. fucking. ominous.

this episode had a lot of things that were : not in the book, switched around, or completely invented, such as

What's Tywin doing with Arya? She's supposed to be Roose Bolton's cup bearer. But I like Tywin a lot so I'm okay with him getting more face time. Catelyn and Littlefinger? don't remember that happening at all. Robb's conversation with the nurse? Who has got to be Jeyne Westerling. Right? The shadow birth - are we getting ready to say goodbye to Renly already? Storm's End has been completely written out it appears, which I guess is fine.

but, as far as the actual episode went -

amazing. SO MUCH GORE in this episode. I don't remember the other episodes being so fucking horrifying. Everything at Harrenhall had me gritting my teeth, it was horrible. I feel like this season is moving a lot...faster than the other one. The first season went almost tit for tat for the first book -- the last thirty seconds of season 1 being the last five pages of book one. this one just feels so fast! lots of foreshadowing in this episode too, i think. the previews for next week look promising (is Tywin going to out Arya? FINALLY J'HAQEN! some more wall too, exciting!)

probably my favourite scenes though:
