^same here, it's next to impossible to talk about the actual tv series with all this incessant book talk.

and what would you have done? have a mod pick through this entire thread, find all the posts about the books, and split the thread? that would ruin it and remove any post that compared the book to the series. go read them or not.

i just realized re-reading this thread that Jorah Mormont is the same actor who plays skeezy Sir Richard on Downton Abbey.

PB & I have taken to using "SAAN SAAH" as a word for a person who ruins something by their lame/weak/stupid/silly mistakes. it gets a lot of use.

^nah, splitting would have those problems you said. can the conversation just move, please?

well well well meet some new faces everyone

Stephane Dillane as Stannis Baratheon

this guy as Xaro Xhoan Daxos

Karl Davies as a not real character from the series Alton Lannister

Karl-Davies.jpg

article says:

The best guess of most fans is that Alton will fill the role of Cleos Frey from the books. Frey, who doesn't come into importance until the third book, is the result of a Lannister/Frey marriage, and it could be likely that Alton Lannister is the result of the writers wanting to put a stress on his Lannister heritage. If he is filling the role of Cleos, it's likely that we'll see him as a prisoner of war alongside Jaime Lannister in Robb Stark's camp when the second season starts.

why are they doing this? why? is this necessary? they've already introduced the freys. no need to go about making up more characters to confuse even more people.

ones i'm excited about:

Tom Wsachila(??) as Jaqen H'gar

he looks promising. i'm really excited to see how they do arya & jaqen's arc next season.

Carice van Houten as Lady Melisandre

certainly doesn't look as dark as i read her, nor as red. here's the whole article, complete with other characters that shouldn't even be in this season: http://www.tvovermind.com/game-of-thrones/game-thrones-meet-faces-season-2/86984

Cant wait for Season 2, will have to watch the first one again. The show is actually being filmed a couple of hours away from where i live.

Davos totally works:

Balon does not:

This is the Lord of the Iron Isles? Don't think so.

I pictured Stannis as being a Robert Baratheon that never went to fat. A "big boned" guy, but not in the fat way. He's a powerful guy. Muscular. Someone with a strong jaw line. Someone who stands and sits as if he has a metal rod where his spine should be. He will break before he bends. I don't like this actor for him:

Really, with the ATfW spoiler chapter, can you imagine that actor playing the part?

Also, the only way to cast Brienne of Tarth was to cast a man in the part. The actor who plays her should look like a man, and not a good-looking one. A mediocre-looking man. It's only when you realize that the character is a woman that you realize how ugly she is. Her frame is male. She has broad shoulders. Large hands. A face that looks mannish, except for the lack of facial hair or indication its been shaved off. She's someone who can fight Jamie and Jamie, one of the best swordsmen of the seven Kingdoms, thinks he's in trouble. She's powerful. She's strong. And she's so hideously ugly that no suitor her age will consider her worthy of marriage, despite the riches of Tarth. This does not work:

Oh, and Kenickie:

NSFW:
Sure, Asha has her plans to invalidate the Kingsmoot by the absence of Theon. Presumably through Theon challenging it. But Rob had plans to be King of the North. Renly had plans to sit on the Iron Throne. Rhaegar had plans to crush a rebellion. Plans don't mean much in Westeros.

Finally finished A Dance With Dragons yesterday, completing the set. Which means I can now open this thread without worrying about everything getting spoiled. :)

*I'm not surprised they're combining some aspects of Books 2 &3, as they did the same last season; I suspect they're doing it for time and simplicity. If this gets past the second season, they'll probably cross-over the following books, especially 4 &5.

*Re Stannis: I too would've picked a more robust-looking actor; in terms of appearance, I visualized someone much like Bruce Willis.

*Re Davos: That guy is a perfect choice for one of my favorite (and sorely underused) characters in the series.

*Melisandre: I just hope they give her redder hair and red contacts, which would be just the right combination of sexiness and disturbing for her character.

*Re Brienne: You know, I knew they would do something like that; they even do it in the book of art inspired by the series, making her much more attractive than she's described. You'll never nab a horde of new fanboys with a heroine who looks like a stone butch, though.

did everyone see the awesome trailer that came out tonight?

looks promising!

what on earth is Theon Greyjoy doing?

some drowned god shit or what?

I'm guessing he's being blessed by his crazy uncle.

The trailer looked great, except for Daenarys... I really don't like how that actress is portraying her and I hope it doesn't fuck up her awesome storyline.

PB & I have taken to using "SAAN SAAH" as a word for a person who ruins something by their lame/weak/stupid/silly mistakes. it gets a lot of use.

"Stupid as a nail shouting at a hammer"?

edit: NVM, that wasn't an acronym.. I spent entirely too long trying to puzzle out what a SAAN SAAH was.. then it hit me. Tonight, I am a Sansa :(

Sansa isn't *that* bad, people. As the character who, IMO, has the least agency of any of the Starks, I find it hard not to think of her as a semi-tragic figure, especially by the later books.

:D!

Sansa isn't *that* bad, people. As the character who, IMO, has the least agency of any of the Starks, I find it hard not to think of her as a semi-tragic figure, especially by the later books.

The Starks are full enough of tragedy imho, no need to have more. Plus, things look like they could up for her, for the 398594754 time after passing up so many opportunities and or ruining the chances given her.

As for the trailer: Besides Theon, no more Greyjoys? :(
Melisandre looked awesome for .3 seconds:

and oh Tywin looking all swag and shit.

as if you didn't have enough of a reason to hate New York and every ungrateful shit head who lives there, HBO is concentrating it's 'viral' marketing for season 2 in NYC.
