Gabapentin withdrawal

I am prescribed gaba by my Dr. for pain and insomnia. My current dose is 300 mg 3 x daily but sometimes I take a little more than that (never exceeding 2,400 mg a day) and usually end up running out a week or so early before I can get my refill. The worst part of the withdrawal IMO is the itchy/burning feeling in my skin. It drives me nuts, makes me crabby and never seems to lessen as time progresses without the drug . Does anyone know a good remedy for that? I've tried diphenhydramine but that doesn't help, probably because it's a nerve problem and not an allergy problem. Ibuprofen helps a tad but my skin still feels hot and prickly. I guess the most obvious solution would be to not take more than prescribed but some days 900 mg doesn't cut it.
