Opioids Gabapentin to get high?

I have a buddy who says he takes 2400mg of gabapentin every morning for his nerve pain but I suspect he is justifying it as I’ve heard people abuse it. Is that true? Do people get high from gabapentin?

Chill om your boy, its a really ineffective drug. It, for most people, feels dirty and unenjoyable, it works at voltage gated calcium (i think, if not sodium) channels. In order to get high I had to take like 5 grams of the shit, and I was a little ass jit.

Honestly ive heard of 3000 mg a day medically, so I really dont think its anything to worry about, if he starts seizing when he gets it late, maybe. Gabapentiniods biggest risk is a withdrawal syndrome that only occurs occasionally in heavy users, though when it does, it sounds hellish. Other than that it can mess with your kidneys and liver i beleive, and cause weight gain, but none of this is worse than an ibuprofen. And he might want to start tapering on his own as the government puts stricter controls in place.

Id say, even if he does experience & enjoy mild psychoactive effects, if its his perscription, clearly he does have a reason to take it, and its for the most part harmless. Certainly less so than a heavy caffeine, alcohol or nicotine addiction.

Research long term use of Gabapentin. I'm pretty sure it's not healthy using it long term. I think it's one of the drugs that's not really recommended to use forever or something. Xanax same thing. Over a year can increase dementia risk according to studies.. which could eventually be proven false or even confirmed even more.

During this type of overdose someone cannot use their phone to dial 911 or even open up a prescription bottle to take something. Being alone during this is sure way to die. Not a fall asleep opioid death. A scary death.

Yes it can be abused, but nerve pain is a rational diagnosis for using gabapentinoids. These are the most effective pain killers when it comes to nerve pain.

Of course, you can experience somewhat pf a high, but tolerance rises extremely fast and actually the high isnt that good. Its more likely he just takes it for this pain.

They were extremely common to hear about on the street - seemed to be prescribed easily and as a user mentioned above, often was used in some sort of cocktail of drugs. Or maybe just a fistful with no caution if nothing else was around.

I know a lot of people in the homeless community use this drug Gabapentin. I know a lot of people who used to use Opiates on the street seem to like Gabapentin a lot. I´m not an expert, but if there is an entire economy devoted to a drug like I see with this one (people talking about it openly, constantly, trading it, asking for it, needing it) then I think it is difficult to deny that it can be abused and/or is addictive.

According to Google, the maximum dosage for most people is 2,400mg per day which is 800mg x3. It seems rare that they go higher than that but it´s not an unreasonable dosage so far as I can tell.

As someone who broke their neck and has tons of nerve damage around the upper spine, gabapentin is the only thing that prevents my cervicogenic headaches, and I get it by the boat loads. I only take 1800mg/day these days, and WAS only taking 900mg but that proved to be too little to prevent the headaches. Years ago, I was taking 3600mg/day but that was absolutely pointless and just led to an even more violent poly-substance withdrawal in jail for 38 days. Any recreational effects that gabapentin initially has go away rapidly. I'm talking days. After a week, you will barely feel a buzz if taking a high dose every day, even staggered.

Actually, gabapentin really does help block pain. Six months ago, I had back pain, and it helped me get through it more easily.

+1 for pregablin, I've never tried Gabapentin because everything I read about it v pregablin lead me to just use pregablin instead, it seems so much of a better choice recreationally.
