Neurontin makes me feel like I am on acid. I was always surprised when docs prescribed it for my pain. I told all of them how it made me feel, some just suggested that I take more of it (?) and some just looked at me blinking/had never heard of that side effect before. It makes me feel truly impaired. I don't feel comfortable getting behind the wheel of a car, and I feel like I am acting weird and people are looking at me like "are you on drugs??". My pupils like huge, and my eyes look weird in general... just like when I look in the mirror when I used to take acid in my teens. I do not feel like any of these things on any opiate pain med... even the strongest... on opiates I feel very normal and not impaired. I think it is strange that docs are so eager to push a drug on to me that makes me feel weird, because they don't want me to take a drug that doesn't make me feel weird. It doesn't make very much sense to me. Neurontin helps me sleep, but the effects it has on my stomach make it completely not worth it to take, in my opinion. I mean I have docs prescribing mountains of neurontin, and my pain issue isn't even nerve pain. Why is this drug preferred, even though it causes impairment and has such horrible side effects? To be fair, I asked my last doctor if she had ever taken it herself, and she had not. I told her to try it sometime. It is a very weird drug for me.
