I took 1500mg of gabapentin (which to my understanding is a relatively high starting dose), and had no effects aside from cloudy vision and loss of balance. No high to speak of. Should I try a higher dose or are the effects of this drug dependent on the person?

gabapentin isn't a recreational drug/medication, it's great for RLS, so helps with opiate withdrawl, as one of it's medical uses, but it's not like benzos or even pregabalin which some find recreational. I believe gabapentin has a very slight anxiolytic effect, but no mood lift, or relaxation or high as to speak of.

Why are you prescribed it?

I hate how some swear that Gabapentin isn't recreational because they don't get good effects from it. Gabapentin is like tramadol, some hate it and don't find it recreational in the least, but for some reason there are people who respond to it quite nicely and for them, it is recreational. Personally, I find gabapentin pretty damn recreational, no it's not something you take to get extraordinarily fucked up, but it provides me with an experience that I find pleasant. These are the effects that neurontin gives me...

- Moderate to strong mood lift
- Minor body oriented euphoria
- Strong increase in confidence
- Reduction of anxiety
- Ever so slight OEV and CEV
- Minor loss of coordination
- Sometimes severe case of the giggles, hilarity
- Increased socialization

If you experienced these effects, would you not call this a recreational substance? Yeah lyrica is far better, but gabapentin ain't to shabby for some either. Many others who respond positively constantly argue for the recreationalness (haha not even a word) but are constantly shot down by those who don't get positive effects. Pertaining to the OP, if you didn't get good effects this time... you probably won't and might as well move on.

Ps. This post isn't necessarily directed towards you phatass, but as a general observation I've noticed.

Were you thinking that because it is sometimes used as a painkiller it is in the opiate class? It's not. Gabapentin is a GABA analog (it mimics one of your brain chemicals) and is used as an anticonvulsant, antipsychotic, and for generally neuropathic pain. I'm on 3200mg/day (800x4) and find it works great for my neuropathic pain and even helps a little with opiate withdrawal (which I do a lot) but I wouldn't really ever think of using it to get high.

Just because gabapentin didn't get you high does not make it a useless drug or "lame". This is a harm reduction forum so I'm going to close this.
