GABA to GHB?

It is well known that GHB and its precursers both direct and indirect (ie. GBL)have been tightly regulated by the gov. but GABA (gamma-amino butyric acid) is still readily available. When GABA is metabolized by the body it is turned to succinic semialdehyde...from there it is oxidized to make succinic acid for production of ATP or reduced to make GHB. Does anyone know what metabolites the body uses to reduce this to GHB? and What conditions does the body look for to decide what to do with this?

Would it be possible to convert this outside the body? The only diff is the hydroxy group on the GHB vs. the NH2 group on GABA. I tread carefully on this and I am not looking for synth methods, more or less a yes or no. If I am violating forum rules (which i dont think I am) let me know I will edit this post.

Also does anyone know of a way to make the blood-brain barrier more permiable to allow maybe the GABA directly into the brain, I know this could have adverse effects due to the fact it is am ihibitory neuro-transmitter...but it is food for thought.

Quinine or quinidiine can increase the permeability of the BBB. Gaba does have some pharmacological effects, but you know very well it can not get you high. Quinine might potentiate its muscle relaxant and sedative qualities, but thats about all it will do. Making GHB from gaba would be more of a headache then its worth, but theoretically, sp what......GBL isnt that hard to get, there are weird legal analogs floating around, and all that other nasty stuff like 1,4-bd, can be found everywhere.

GHB sucks anyways, you end up waking up 4 hours later and need to keep on re-dosing untill you need it to function......

It is possible to convert gaba to ghb/gbl , but it takes lab skills and the synth has not been perfected, and on top of that it is illegal.

My interests in this were more for health and experimentation then recreational value...I understand that it doesnt get you high, but it does increase HGH and so does GHB, so I was looking at those qualities as well as my interest in the amazing things our bodies do that a lab has trouble doing....and as far as GBL it isnt hard to find I have found sources... just curiosity and the fact I have a large supply of GABA on hand for weight training.

Thank You for responding I was wondering for sometime what it was that changed the BBB, thanx.
