I think G is safer, and has less calories so you don't turn into a big fat pig like if you are an alcoholic.
WIth GHB and all its precursors, there isnt a big difference in doses between a good buzz and a trip to the hospital.
Well, that is relative. What is a "big" difference? I haven't taken any ghb for about a year, but before that I did it almost daily for over a year and never came CLOSE to a trip to the hospital. I mean, the above quote makes it sound like, no matter how careful you are, you can screw up and wind up in a coma. No, if you are careful and know what you are doing, that does not happen. I've seen friends get "Geed Out" where they take too much and pass into a stuporous sleep from which they cannot easily be awakened. Not good, particularly in public. But (1) they knew they were pushing it -- you can't keep trying to get "more" of that G feeling, because instead of feeling better you will knock yourself out; and (2) they were never in any real danger, or in need of a trip to the hospital. They just needed to sleep it off. I've never heard of anyone dying or going into a coma from G where they were JUST taking G. You take too much, you pass out. That is all. The hospital trips only come in when you mix G with other depressants, usually alcohol.
Anyway, the real risk of G comes from people taking it who don't know about, or fully appreciate, the risk of mixing G with alcohol or other depressants. The real risk is NOT from accidentally taking one dose too many of just G (unless you are in a strange place, surrounded by strangers who might take advantage of you in your sleep).
I mean, imagine if you could take alcohol and put all the effect of 3 shots of hard liquor into one pill, with the benefit of (1) quickly getting drunk and (2) nearly no calories, no liver damage and no hangover. Such a pill would be about the same risk level as G. Take a couple of those pills with some other downer and you could die. Take three and you may pass out and puke and generally be a sorry sight. Do you think if the pill was just alcohol slightly modified into pill form, that the government would make it schedule 1?
As I see it, the problem is twofold. First, a lot of people have a hypocritical view of alcohol as qualitatively different than a "drug" and they have been brainwashed to think "drugs are bad" so any form of alcohol is fine, but no "drug" is ever okay (unless it is medicine). Second, the alcohol companies are hugely powerful in politics and put all their weight against the idea of creating any form of legal competition for themselves.
Well, nowadays I don't feel like it is worth the risk to try to locate G anymore, so I stick with alcohol for that good old drunk feeling. But I sure wish they'd make G legal so I could have the same (or better) effect without these empty calories.

p.s. Oh, after almost daily use for a year, I quit without any noticeable withdrawal symptoms. Perhaps there were some minor symptoms I don't recall now, but nothing comes to mind. Perhaps you need to use it longer to get the withdrawal symptoms. I do think it has a psychological withdrawal, but I'm not sure that isn't just the feeling of wanting to do something that feels good. It can be hard to tell those apart. I definitely missed it when it was gone. And if it had been more readily available I probably would have kept using it.
