Don't know if this belongs in psychedelics, but from my experience with it, it sure as hell doesn't. BIG dissapointment. The stuff has recently become legal here in Canada, and at 70$ a bottle I decided to hit it for the first time. Half a 26oz later, I'm unfuckingbelievably drunk, but not tripping Van Gogh style. Is the stuff up here made with enough wormwood to give any psychedelic effects? Is any, for that matter - or is its mind altering properties more of a sales gimick?
 
It's very mild, and some of the absinthe available in Canada has far less of the active ingredient than did the stuff available to the artists and poets who got hooked on the stuff.
 
It's funny you mention this because I recently seen Wormwood teabags in a local store and I was pretty surprised because I though it was illegal everywhere in Canada and America. Do you think this would have any effects at all, not neccesarly psychedelic but do you think I could get drunk/mellow from it?
 
Are you sure there is actual wormwood in our absinthe (ie: active thujones)? I thought we had it available, but with wormwood flavouring added.

They sell wormwood at the health food store in my city. Like 2 ounces of wormwood for 5 bucks or something. This is in Canada btw
 
The stuff comes in all sorts of levels of thujone... I've seen an expensive bottle that contains about a fifth as much thujone as the cheaper bottle. Just gotta read the fine print...
 
I knew a few people who had thujone extract. They took about 20 drops per person (it takes horrible!) and a few of them developed some psychedelic effcts. They said it was mild, however.
 
Yeah herbal health places. What's the deal with it? Anyone tried the TEA? What's the difference? Does it get destroyed by heat? The person there says it's used for some digestion problems. Let me know what u think.

Who said Van Gogh tripped on absinthe? Who said any artist trippedon absinthe?
The artists themselves never said anything of the sort. It was independant writers trying to make the lives of the artists appear more interesting and provide an explanation for the uniqueness of their art.
Van Gogh's style came from his imagination. Not the substances he used.
Absinthe intoxicates you. It's not hallucinogenic. Although chronic use probably makes you dellusional.
 
oh god- absinth is such a dissapointment. i moved to israel, and it is legal here, so of course i rushed to try it. i bought a bit at a bar, and i took it. i was drunk for like maybe an hour and a half- then i was totallly sober again... it was nothing special. i dont know why people make such a big deal out of it. i wasnt even that drunk from it.
