Fuck the queen of england

The kinda people who would vote for UKIP, I don't doubt ;)
You don't even vote or know what to vote for so you should observe your own pretension before being a condescentard to others.
It's technically not a hymn, and doesn't get sung in churches anyway. but he talked about nice things in England such as the lovely hills etc so it seems he liked England and it is somewhat patriotic so is fitting for sports matches to get the crowd going, but you get the urge to twist it into pointless semantic bollocks. At least we can agree that it's better than holag or gstq.

The countryside was mentioned primarily to juxtapose with the 'dark, satanic mills'.

It's a critique of industrialisation, not an Ingerlund fanboy song.

Doesn't matter though. God Save the Queen has nothing to do with football but it is to do with the country. Which is why when nations play sports against eachother, these sorts of songs are sung to distinguish them from eachother and motivate the crowd. I know you hate sports but there's no need to be offended by songs being used as national anthems. Are you Shambles twin? Patriotism isn't a word made up by KKK members contrary to spasticated belief by 'liberals' in this country. Go to Nigeria or Ghana and they will say they're are patriotic without having people jump on them accusing them of being racist or little Ghanaers.

They do give good gratuitous indignation, for sure. Can't swear for shit though. Aside from "motherfucker" maybe. Took a while before the Brits could use that one naturally without sounding like a dick. Got the hang of it now, of course. The Aussies are the only English-speaking nation on Earth that can even begin to compete with the Brit's sweariness skillz =D

Like you guys say cunt all the time, that shit dont fly over here

No, it's to do with a monarch. :)

Which is why it's the laughing stock of the developed world.

I hate sports? Eh? Why do I post on the football thread then? Trolling?

Or perhaps you're aiming it at the person you imagine me to be; unpatriotic, therefore by (bullshit) extension I'm bound to be a sickly, unathletic, limp-wristed pinko commie who depises such manly pursuits. Admit it.

I dunno... over here there's nothing wrong with a little kiss between male friends, but we draw the line at donning lycra leggings and shoulder pads and putting our heads up each others' arses. ;)

I have actually heard it sung in a church, so afraid you are incorrect.

Also, have a little look at Blake's work and you will discover that he was far from what we think of now as a patriot.

He was a poet, he wrote metaphorically

My point still stands. It is still about the country. You are clutching at straws.
I assumed you didn't like sports because you keep complaining about anthems and their uses. Maybe you should make one up yourself so you feel better about the whole issue.
And no I don't have any preconceptions about your physical status lol.

Oh well, not many churches use it seeing as it doesn't refer to God. He was somewhat religious or spiritual. He wasn't anti-christian or whatever.
How do you know how patriotic he was? He lived in London most of his life so probably cared about it somewhat.
Anyway, I'm sure he's happy his poems live on.

When?

And since when was sport either a) all about patriotism or b) all about anthems, which tend to be dreary by nature?

Are you one of those people who supports a shit football team and has to get their glory through internationals?

I'll admit, I'll sometimes watch the rugby and listen to people singing along to Flower of Scotland, La Marseillaise or (in times gone by) The Soldier's Song and it's powerful stuff.

Were the men in white to sing Land of Hope and Glory then it might have a simlar effect. I'm sorry though, a dirge in honour of the monarchy (who themselves are imported, lest we forget) just doesn't stir me at all.

As for Blake, you're right on that front. He self-identified as a non-conformist Christian, but we'd probably call him a Gnostic nowadays. Whether you consider that 'religious' or 'spiritual' is up to you.

He was very spiiritual, but despised organised religion quite clearly if you read his stuff.

It is also clear that he was not a patriot, y'know, by way of reading his poems;)

If you really want evidence then am quite happy to provide, having done a dissertation on Blake...

He did live in London yes...he was commonly thought to be an absolute freak by the establishment at the time and did not get any recognition for his work until after he died.

'Jerusalem' is neither religious or patritic - fact. Tis a common misconception though, much as, say, people think "Romeo, Romeo, Wherefore art thou, Romeo?" means "Where are you Romeo?"....So, we'll let you off;)

I'm using the term patriotic loosely, it refers to England so that is a good enough excuse to use it as an anthem with the advantage of it sounding nice. He obviously cared for the country or he wouldn't speak against the satanic mills ruining the countryside etc. Doesn't mean he has to get on his knees and suck King Arthurs wrinkly old cock.:D

no the English football team is fucking shit, I would be glad if they actually played good football like Spain or Germany though. But with the likes of gerrard and terry it puts me off somewhat. I am a Man united fan which is multi-national:)

You do realise we have what you call 'football' in this country too?

Only we call it Rugby. It's pretty much the same thing only our lot don't get to wear helmets and all that protective padding.

Because they're not pussies like american 'football' players.

Any sport that requires men to wear contured lyrca pants designed to show off their asses strikes me as suspicious. Or extremely liberal and perhaps aimed at a specific demographic. I wonder which it is in the case of this particular american sport?

Are you from New-Zealand? Lomu is a legend but that doesn't retract from that fact Rugby>NFL so what is your point in this thread?
