Aloha -
I am using Xanax during a subutex w/d and I have 2mg 2x/day (4mg/day)- given my history with opiate addiction I am terrified to become physically dependent on a benzo. i have been on benzos many times and never caught a habit- mentally they aren't that attractive to me, but given how long this detox is taking I am getting nervous. My Dr told me not to worry about it and that it would take three or four months to catch a habit but Drs have been telling me crazy things for years- the only thing I trust is REAL experience.,

Can anyone with REAL LIFE EXperience tell me? I'm sure this has been answered so if anyone has a verified and trusted URL I would be just as grateful.

After first being prescribed clonazepam daily, I think I was physically dependent within a month or two. I've now been dependent on benzos for 7 years, and I'm currently in the slow agonising process of tapering down with diazepam.

took me one to two weeks but ive been addicted before so it happened to me faster possibly

having withdrawn from both opiates and benzsos, id just stick out the opiate withdrawal or take it in an ermengy only.. 3 to 4 monthsis bullshit youd be truly dependent by two months.

Wow, see that is so much faster than the MD said. I guess you're right @ if you have a hesitant feeling- follow it.

Is there any rule to this such as 1) every other day and you're fine or 2)do a week skip a few days your fine ... etc.?

I need a good rule to stick by- these are so helpful I want to use them but it would be pointless if it would be just another addiction.

Oh man! that is really fast! Now I am a little freaked out. Do you mean you were addicted to benzos before?

I know as an opiate addict if I am clean then use opiates for even 1 day I will feel sick for a day or three afterwards- so hopefully since I have never been addicted to benzos that won't happen.

I have to be normal today so I have a break in my w/d (have to take subutex to go somewhere) from opiates. Since I wont need Xanax today I won't take any and didn't yesterday (but had w/d yesterday)-

would the opiate cover any benzo w/d or if I were physically dependent on Xan would I know it by now?

if you've been skipping days and havent felt xanax withdrawal you are not addicted. It has a short half life. Past the 24 hour mark and no withdrawals means you are good. one to two weeks isnt gonna give you unbearable withdrawals, but after 7 days you will feel a decent amount of rebound effects. and yes i mean i was addicted before so i reinstated back to bad withdrawals fast. and opiates would only help a little with benzo withdrawal. two different parts of the brain, opiates wont cure benzo withdrawal. in fact when i was withdrawing from benzos and took sub i didnt even feel the sub, which is very abnormal for me cause usually sub knocks me out.

ok, IME xanax is more addictive than it is worth. the short half-life makes ya wanna re-dose more than once a day. It is great to take if you're about to do something that u are nervous about, like a job interview or something, for recreation or for an anxiety attack but for everyday use the ends don't justify the means.

For long time legit use, I'd ask to be switched to a long acting benzo.
I actually personally like Valium. It has a very long Half life. lasts all day & sort of tappers itself out of your body over about a week. It doesnt have a sudden rebound anxiety.
It doesnt elleviate anxiety as well as xanax, but it has greater sedation. & it won't wear off half way through the night!

It's funny to say but being on Xanax kind of MAKES me anxious because I know it's going to have a sudden rebound anxiety if I don't redose. Valium may be weaker but it doesn't come with the fear of a sudden rebound attack. u can feel at ease that it's ok to mis a few days even & if u DO get addicted get & start gettin a tolerance & taken more, or get strssed & start taken more ya already at an advantage cuz ya already on the one they use to wean ya off.

Hmm, take Xanax, but as soon as it feels like the same dose aint doing the same job, swith to Valium if u MUST use Xanax.

This thread is very relevant to my situation, as I was actually going to post something very similar.

I took my vacation from work beginning July 26th for a week. I actually planned it so I can detox from opiates and kick at home, which to me is exponentially easier than having to go thru withdrawal at work.

My plan is to load up on seroquel from a friend and sleep as much as possible. In the case that I dont get the seroquel, I am going to buy xanax. I dont want to get addicted to benzo's though (who does?), so I was wondering if 10 days of daily xanax use would result in withdrawal thus after. Thank you to the many bluelighters who posted in this thread, as I pretty much have the answer now.

On another note, I really hope this seroquel comes through. Since it is fucking impossible to sleep at any time when I kick, the thought of being heavily sedated through the whole process is easing my mind so much.

GL to the OP, I hope you can get that monkey off your back. I sure as hell have been trying for too long :(

Probably took me around 6-months. WD's are terrible with benzo's. No one should ever go cold-turkey. I started about a year and two months ago with a regular benzo habit. They calm my anxiety but I have no idea how I'll ever get off em.

I'm at around 1-1.5mg of Klonopin daily.

The "Rule"

What about the "Rules to live by" for safe Xanax use? I hear you @ maybe switching to a longer acting benz but I am really only using Xanax for opiate w/d- but being that it is subutex I am w/ding from the w/d period is dragging on and on and on and on....

So if I stick to every other day will I be fine? (which is kind of what one of the above posts makes me think) 2 days on one day off? Could every other day cause physical dependence? So far so good- I took it for a couple weeks, got nervous and went a few days without just to be sure- and had to take a peice of a subby for an event so I know I am only in Opiate w/d and don't have any benzo dependence. I do want to enjoy how much it decreases my w/d without forming a habit-

What are the rules to safe use (meaning just preventing physical dependence) that you guys use?

Ive been taking xanax everday for about 5days now coming off of a nasty ass week long amphetamine binge, so ive been taking xanax daily as it helps me heart goin nuts, twitching less noticable and not so depressed...

Ive only been taking up to 1.5 everyday for 5 months...is there ANY way i can get w/d from benzos after taking every day, even if its a small dose??

Even though its been 4 days since ive taken any amphetamines, I still feel somewhat low, and my weed highs seem a little speedy *(something I notice happenes after doing any stimulants heavily) unless i take xanax, which really keeps me clear headed.

I want to pop a .5 now, would this be okay without any w/ds?

I only pop 0.5 at a time....i gotta say xanax is one drug I can honestly say i am VERY careful with, and this is coming from someone who used to pop insane amounts of opiates, amps, ecstasy, ect pills at once.

For some reason xanax almost scares me...that shit knocks me on my ass LOL strong drug!

My experience with benzos. If I take em on a 'binge weekend' involving polydrug use, which is how I use them nowadays but not too often, no problems at all.

Taken regularly, whether prescribed or not, you'll have a problem quitting them.

Taken to ease the withdrawals from other drugs-particularly opiates they're a fucking blessing. Other peeps here will know better than me what particular benzo is ideal for you, but whatever, knock yourself out on benzo's for 2 weeks to get off sub will not give you a physical benzo addiction.
