Hi people

So the half lives of diazepam and klonopin and metabolite issue etc is different between these drugs.

My question is.... If I quit diazepam completely and switch to klonopin, will the levels of diazepam still gradually fall until I'm am just left with the half life of klonopin to be concerned with. Or would it maintain the levels of certain metabolites in my system? Any other advice regarding switching from diaz to klon are also appreciated, as it is easy to Google switching the other way round.

Thanks

The reason I'm am wanting to switch is because I will be using the klonopin daily and xanax when needed combo and don't like the idea of how much diazepam builds up in my system and understand that I may one day need to use diazepam to taper

Yes it, will, the half life of the diazepam will fall away as the clonazepam builds up in your system, but as long as you do an equivalent switch it would not be percievable. Dont quote me on this but I dont think that Diazepam and Clonazepam share any active metabolites, as for starts they belong to 2 different classes of benzos - Diazepam belongs to the '2-keto' family of benzodiazepines and Clonazepam the '7-nitro' group. Ultimately this sort of detail should be completely academic, as they still share complete cross tolerance and you should be able to swap from diazepam to clonazepam and back again with proper medical management.
