Opioids From codeine to oxycontin

Really that bad of a switch ? I had been doing 800 mg a day of codeine minimum (CWE's so still a bit of APAP I imagine). Now I been scripted OC 10 mg and 20 mgs seems to do me just fine. I'm not in love or anything the high is actually indistinguishable from a high dose of codeine. Is it any worse doing 20 mgs of that a day than the former 800 mg ?
 
Self, been given quite a large supply. All it's doing is keeping the worst of the depression from the codeine withdrawal at bay and making me nauseous, taking a lot of restraint to not go and get some codeine...
 
Why were you given a large supply? Oxy is a bad one for nausea, you should ask your doctor for some anti emetics. I actually think 20mg oxy doesnt equal out with 800mg codeine, BUT oxy will still push your tolerance up quicker than codeine. Maybe you should use this as an oppertunity to get off both?
 
Cos someone I knew didn't want them. They weren't working anyway(probs taking too little), so went and got some codeine, gonna try taper down with that rather. perhaps a good thing i didnt take a shine to oxy. sweating like crazy, i gravely underestimated how hard it would be to get off codeine 800 mg a day for a year. Haven't been sleeping properly either for the past week, particularly stressful exam week, generally a mess, seeing my shrink on monday.

800mg of codeine is a heavy amount to come off I don't care what anyone says. Especially using it everyday. You will experience sweating, insomnia and a bunch of other not so nice things! But it's better to get off now before it gets much worse.
 
Na, most of the acetaminophen filtered out through thorough cwe, had kidneys and liver tested 2 weeks ago a-ok. Gonna take this slower than I planned gonna cut down to 400 mg a day, then 200 then 100, CT is quite unpleasant.
 
800mg of codeine, if your liver metabolizes like most peoples would be equivalent to 80mg of morphine approximately since 10% of the total dose of codeine is metabolised into morphine by the liver (allthough i believe the ceiling dose of codeine is around 600mg) so in fact you won't be getting 80 but closer to 60mg morphine, which is considerably stronger then 10 or even 20mg oxy, also oxy is more speedy whereas codeine is more morphiny/dopey...

maybe your liver doesn't metabolise codeine very well so you get closer to 5% of your codeine dose converted into morphine, its possible, which would explain why 20mg of oxy feels the same as 800mg codeine...

either way from a health standpoint i would say you're better off doing 10-20mg oxy/day than 800mg codeine
