Please, someone send me their email address so I can send them a picture of the injection site to be posted by the person I send it to. I'm on an iPod, I can't seem to post the picture myself. I know I can let this go and feel somewhat comfortable if people look at it and decide that I shouldn't worry. Or it might be just the thing to enable someone to tell us that he is in serious trouble and needs medical attention.

Thank you, whoever may help...

My friend tried to inject the IR coating on 54mg concerta capsules. The liquid was red, thick but not gellike, and definitely contained some particulate matter despite filtering. Some of the shot was missed in the arm, on the bicep but near the elbow. There is swelling at the site which appears to have slowly gotten somewhat worse, and there are strange red points on the site, kind of like burst capillaries. We're not sure if it's getting worse or not, and we've tried applying heat and cold. There is some pain, but not at all severe, just what you'd expect for a missed shot.

The worry here is that those capsule casings on the concerta were not meant to be dissolved and banged. I imagine this is highly hazardous.

There is some redness surrounding the site, despite the absence of heat to cause it. How can we tell if he needs to go to the doctor or not? I know better safe than sorry, but my buddy really can't afford to get his IV use on his med. record for a number of reasons. Should we apply heat or cold to try to help it? Rub or compress the area?

This guy is currently on some 120mg of methylphenidate, oral, and whatever was in the capsules injected on top of that, along with 120mg of methadone. He's now taking a number of k-pins and Ativan in order to ease his anxiety. The swelling is quite noticeable, but he's had such swelling before and been ok. The only thing different about this is the weird redness on the site, and the nature of the injected solution being likely very dangerous.

The other site he injected the same stuff into is not swelling or bruising at all. It seems that the small amount missed is what is causing the issue.

I know he should probably go now to be safe, but how can you tell when there is a definite and serious need to go? Would anything other than hospital care help in this situation?

Please don't just say we hold go now, I'm aware it's the safest choice but he's adamant about going to a Dr. As Alastair resort, should it be needed.

I can't get a picture of the arm, but we're kind of worried, and can't stop dwelling on the potentialities of the situation at hand. Is there a way we can know it'll be ok, just a normal somewhat painful missed shot? Or signs to watch for that prove the immediate need to seek medical attention?

I've gone to hospitals myself for similar problems, but in every case I would have been fine without going; I'd just over worried. I've also seen far worse missed shots with much more bruising then this one. Nonetheless we're worried, mostly me for him.

The benzos are helping to keep him calm, but obviously you don't want to simply ignore it and think positively in the hope that all I well. As such, it's all we're thinking about right now, and for the past hour or two. The bruising doesn't seem to be spreading, nor does the redness surrounding the site. The worst swelling has remained within the marker circle we drew to measure the development of swelling and/or bruising.

What gives me the most fear is that clealy the substance IVd shouldn't have been used. And worryingly, for five minutes, maybe slightly more, after the injection, there was numbness and a fallen asleep feeling in both hands, clearly something odd. Neither of us have ever experienced something like that happen immediately after a shot. Does this tingling and prickling indicate damage?

Please, just tell us what you know and try to help. Don't preach about safety, I, at least, know to be safe, and reprimanding him for his foolishness will not remedy anything. We need advice, and a way to be sure he'll be ok, or hopefully not, a way to know he needs a doc NOW.

It's been approximately 3-3.5 hours since the missed shot. When should swelling normally recede, and the tenderness of the site start to fade?

When I shot dope into an artery in my arm, that's sort of what my arm looked like if you're describing it accurately. At least it sounds like it because of the swelling, red bumps, etc. What did it feel like when he shot it in? Any warm sensation all over the body/immediate rush/headache?? Or is he pretty sure he just missed.

If he just missed he'll be fine. I've missed with various pills, dope, meth...
If he hit an artery or something else, the swelling usually goes down. The first time I did it scared the shit out of me, but I iced it (don't know if that's a good idea, but it relives some of the discomfort) and it went away within an hour. The second time it subsided a bit within the first 2 hours but was noticeably swollen for a good 24 hours.

But hey I've still got all my limbs!

Should we be freezing that whole section of the arm? Or would heat application be more appropriate? I think cold would help the swelling, but wouldn't heat help open his veins and promote circulation and the clearing away of the missed portion of the shot?

Or should he alternate between the two, or not use either? Are there any things we can do at all to help the situation, any "remedies" to manage this, anything that's helped you?

If it seems to be at a stable level of swelling and bruising, should he simply attempt to ignore it for a while in order to stop unnecessary and unpleasant anxiety/worry?

I just don't know what to do, as when this has happened to me, it has never been truly serious. I've never learned what to do, I really need suggestions and advice.

Thanks in advance, folks, for all the help you can offer.

I really don't know of anything to do, just chill out and ice it.
Medically though, I don't know what to tell you. Last time I did it was so bad I started praying the rosary and I've never done that in my life haha shiiit.

But I also had more dope so I did another shot that didn't miss and it made me feel less anxious.

You can't get a pic of it?? I can sort of visualize I think I know what you mean at least

So we should do what? The tingling went away, and the numbness was relatively mild. He's never hit an artery before, to his knowledge. And doesn't swelling happen normally for a missed shot?

Well if it went away then he'll probably be fine, if the numbness was mild def didn't hit an artery or anything serious.

Not much else you can do unless you really want to goto a hospital but when I miss i usually just rough it out.

Did he miss the entire shot or just some of it?

He complained of nausea and a persistent feeling of unease or general dysphoria for sometime after the shot, perhaps roughly for an hour. This has since subsided and he now feels relatively good, other than around the site, though the drugs he's on could explain his feeling well.

He says that when it was going in it only really hurt when he started to miss. No unusual sensations, really, save the odd tingling of both hands for a while. It was something he'd never felt before, and didn't know what to think of. It kind of felt like a tourniquet was left on too long, depriving the tissues of oxygen. But why did it happen with the same intensity in BOTH hands?

He only missed maybe twenty to thirty units of a rather large 95 unit shot. He injected two of these doses, in different areas, but only missed in one area. The other area seems fine, not even a tiny pain from the needle's entry.

Does this mean it's just a standard missed shot, nothing special? A missed shot is not usually immediately harmful, right? Usually if a missed shot is going to be serious doesn't it take quite some tme before the severity of the damage becomes apparent?

My iPad will let me email the pic to someone else if someone would be kind enough to recieve it and post it for me.

The latest developments seem to be that the surrounding redness has subsided slightly, and now there is a strange spot that is white as if frost bitten or presurized so that the blood left the area. Around the white skin there is the redness. This white spot used to be reddened too, but has lost its hue. Is this a cause for concern?

Please, anyone who can give me an email, Pm it to me or whatever, I could send the pic to you for posting. Hopefully that'd help you folks assess thte situation more accurately.

Thank you all, sincerely, you've made me at least feel better, I truly appreciate the help.

I just can't stop worrying about him until a pic of the site is looked at and judged to be not a cause for concern... Then I can try to relax and wait for it to go away.

*this is a public site, law enforcement read it, listing your email is a bad idea*

Thanks for being the first person to care enough to do this for me. It's sent to you, just post it for me and let me know what you think. If people don't find it too alarming and ell me He'll be ok after seeing a pic, I'll finally be able to drop the anxiety and finally relax.

Btw, that's a little bit of an older pic, maybe thirty to forty mins ago. It's now slightly more extended in the whiteness, the surrounding redness is largely subdued, but the odd redness on top of the site directly has be become more pronounced. The pain it causes remains, slightly intensified. And the swelling has gotten a little worse, but not much.

Thx, I wouldn't know what to tell you since I don't IV, sorry I can't help there.

What makes you come to this conclusion? Can you tell me why you think that, or is it just a baseless assessment provided to emphasize the need for great safety?

just please provide your reasoning, why you think that way, not just a statement I must accept on the basis of arbitrary authority.

A miss without micron filter and he might not be fine.
Did your friend micron filter??
Apply a warm compress, elevate the arm (might a bit late for this though), and put on some anti bacterial ointment. Oink!
If its really painful / starts to look nastier - Go see a doctor. Don't fuck about - its not worth losing a limb over. Use a fake name if you are worried.

Yeah I think if your worried enough to start a thread on here, then you are concerned enough to seek medical attention
