Fresh vs stored morning glory seeds

Hey all,

I have a bunch of morning glory seeds that I collected from my garden a year ago. I tried them when they were fresh and they were great! How well do you think they keep?

probably not perfectly, but i t might be decent.

i recall seeing some article posted here, either it was about ipomoea alkaloids or ergot alkaloids, and it said something to the effect that there is naturally a higher occurrence of lysergic acid hydroxyethylamide "LSH" in fresher material, with lysergic acid amide "LSA" the predominant alkaloid in aged material.

then again there have been no qualitative studies on the LSH/LSA debate, so the answer to your question is "try it and find out!". i would take careful notes and see if you feel any degradation in potency (quantitative) and also if you think the alkaloid ratio may have been affected (qualitative).

if your plants are growing again this year, maybe you can do some double-blind comparison trials at the end of summer!
