For all those that need to frequently unclog, soothe and comfort their - umm - busy nasal passages, what is your preferred OTC nasal product?

I know their are a few substances that are popular in OTC nasal sprays, these seem to be:

Oxymetazoline HCI
Phenylephrine Hydrochloride
Saline

So what do you recommend? Specific brands, styles (mist, drops, sprays)...What works for you?

I don't like anything but saline. I use it before, during, and after my, uh, forays, and it seems to help.

The other stuff has stuff designed to chemically unplug your sinuses - I don't like using them because sometimes they seem to overly dry out the membranes, plus you often get a rebound effect when you stop them the next day. The saline spray is more like a hydration device (though it can also rebound a bit, being saline and all).

(edit: evidence, I have 2 bottles within reach of my computer - told you I'm a fan..)

i just use distilled water with an eyedropper. it's cheap but the downside is you have to clean out your nose within a minute of snorting to benefit. but it's cheap lol

Oxymetazoline and pseudoephedrine decongestants make you incredibly addicted to them because after continual use you won't be able to breathe without them even if you have the nose clean.

Any other Oxymetazoline addicts here?

I've been Oxymetazoline junkie for as long as I can remember myself, long before I have even snorted any drug.

inactive in what way?

It clears my nasal passages, but I use it normally, not to clear my nose while on a coke binge or whatever

or do you mean inactive as a mind-altering substance? in that case, no shit.

Phenylephrine Hydrochloride

Brand names: Neo-Synephrine, Four-something?
Generic: Nasal Four (very good deal, not hard to find)

That's definitely the best, IMO.

I've suffered from nasal congesting allergies pretty much all my life.

I've probably gone years without it, but I've also gone a year on it (like this last one leading up to today... haha).

It blows Oxymetazoline (Afrin) out of the water, IMO.

I'll just make a little subjective comparison of the effects of the two, for you.

Phenylephrine HCl
Onset: 30 seconds
Strength: 9.5 / 10
Duration: 7 / 10
Addictiveness: 8 / 10

Oxymetazoline HCl
Onset: 2 minutes
Strength: 6 / 10
Duration: 8.5 / 10
Addictiveness: 7 / 10
