it worked fine with the hcl on a bit of foil for me - however you don't get the full spectrum of the effects vaping it ime - more stimmy, less magical and maybe a headache later. much better to sniff it. ymmv

Are you aware of the risks of getting manic effects since smoking is not the most accurate and reliable route of administration ? Also people have reported a potentially tricky dose-response curve regarding achieving a full and pleasant level of effects and the stimulating effects that stack up when you start overshooting that level... I've felt what it was like on the cusp. And obviously when you start to get a bit manic there is an inherent risk of overconfidence which may motivate you to continue past your limits.
I recommend sublingual or intramuscular dosing (assuming you can do I.M. clean and safely).

I'm pretty sure that if you apply the method to make crack cocaine to 3-MeO-PCP you'll end up with 3-methoxyphencyclidine freebase, which will probably manifest as a pale yellow oil, and vaping this oil from a bulb type base pipe should be straightforward. You really shouldnt smoke it as the freebase though because that would drastically increase the temperature needed to vape and that for sure leads to far greater decomposition , mostly to 3-methoxycyclohexenylbenzene and piperidine hydrochloride.
What would be particularly convenient is to take the thin pale yellow oil of 3-MeO-PCP freebase and using it mixed 1 part base to 9 parts propylene glycol as a fluid for vaporizing in eCigs. That should hit you like a freight train and be on par with IV injecting the salt. One puff of this mixture equals 0.5-1mg 3-MeO-PCP base`meaning every puff is psychoactive and every drop equals about 5mg base.

A common misconception is that drugs need to be in their freebase form to be smoked.

True Holy Toast but its the same with PCP. Most PCP HCl decomposes to cyclohexenylbenzene and piperidine HCl, alongside tar and ash, when smoked, and theres a report on bluelight of someone smoking 3-MeO and getting the same effect, diminished effects, bad for lungs and ashes left over. 3-MeO is a tertiary amine so its not as basic as a PCE derivative would be, so the smoke isnt as harsh. Its recommended PCE like secondary amine derivatives are smoked as the HCl salt, but tertiary ones like PCP and 3-MeO to be smoked as freebase. Also, you cant get the salt conentrated enough for eCig liquid cause the crystals would plug up the vaporizing head, whereas the freebase is an oil which coulds in theory even be smoked pure, as a "one hit and your out" type thing.

Just do 10 mg doses at most total 30 mg over 12 hours otherwise mania can be the least of your problems. Smoking it sounds like a waste of effort.
