A 'forest' of cannabis plants is to be destroyed after it was found growing on some disused land 'the size of a football pitch' in London.

Scotland Yard officers found more than 150 plants, some of which were more than 5ft tall.

They were alerted after a member of the public came across the suspected cannabis farm in Kingston, in the southwest of the capital.

PC Sarah Henderson, of Kingston borough, said: 'The area these plants were growing on was the size of a football pitch, it looked like a small forest of Christmas trees and was complete with a gazebo.

'Whoever set this up used a really remote spot. The only way to get there was a 20 minute walk through wasteland.
