For where art thou Mr. White?

Transactional Analysis has some interesting points to consider if one can get around the junk/pop-psychology label; Ego States vis a vis Personality Structure as opposed to motivation being a biogenetic impulse (my secondary interest in school was Evolutionary Psych) as well as the juxtaposition of Personality Structure and biogenetic impulse, as in,"Recognition Hunger." I totally agree with his assertion that, for example, Recognition Hunger as he framed it drives to do so much of the negative things we do (a parent that spanks us is better than a parent that ignores us,i.e. Negative attention is better than no attention at all) but then Berne didn't introduce that very basic truth.

There is a hell of a lot to criticise but instead of going off on that tangent I am wondering whether-or-not your interest in TA stemmed from the "Intimacy Experiment"? After all, this is a site devoted to psychoactivity (drug use).

If so, what are your views and experiences in relation to it?

Finally, Berne himself was so typical for a psychoanalyst. His personal life was in shambles, kind of like an automechanic who car breaks down every 3 streets. I say this because (especially) with pop-psych people tend to engage in a cult of personality as opposed to simply utilising any positive innovation. There is a real danger in this type of gung ho adulation and indeed, Berne's work naturally spawned "cults" (don't they all?).

Anyway, interesting entry.
