for those of you who dont like alcohol...

There are many reasons to why alcohol is still legal...

1. First and foremost, there is way too much clean money flowing thru it.. Not only does corporate america ame a mint off the shit, but so does our government with all the taxes.. When Uncle Sam is thinking clearly, he is thinking with his wallet.. Im assuming this goes for all the other countries too.
2. People would get really pissed off if we took it away.. There is always going to be the stigma that alcohol is ok, or not a drug, while the others are bad.. In reality, alcohol is the most harmful poplar drug, but still legal. It kills more people, directly and indirectly, then all the other drugs and diseases combined! If not thru cirrosis of the liver, cancer of the stomach, or chronic dehydration of the brain.. then most certainly thru the actions of people under the influence of it.
3. Prohibition didnt work.. It was already tried once.. What politicians dont like to point out, is that this principle could be applied to all drugs.

There are also reasons why marijuana is still illegal, however they have much less backing(much easier to fix) than the alcohol ones. In fact most of the reasons are the opppostie of alcohols.

1. The government has no money tied up in it, which means it goes from profit to evil.. Most likely alcohol would be viewed the same way, if it wernt for the buisness side of it.
2. It threatens many industries.. from the alcohol and tobacco industriy, to rope and textile, to food and medicine... Hemp does it all, which means it could easily replace many industries in one legalisation. Of course, Congress is pretty much elected and run by the money that coporations give it, so thats gonna sway the view..
3. It is a counterculture... Alcohol and cigarette billboards show people being sophisticated and having a good time, not puking into their toilet, getting raped, or dying of suffocation, known as emphesyma... However, there is no real illustious advertising for weed, meaning that the upper class of the US mainly only know what they hear about it on the news, which just so happens tends to be evil(as the news is coporate).. All these people see is the crime surrounding drugs, and the dateline stories about people who fucked up their lives(which ironically is due to the consequences of it being illegal, not because of the effects of the drug itsself). Unfortunatly the rich run the gonvernment, so their one sided views wil have the most presidence.

Im sure some of you have heard about the allegations that Bush's twin daughters smoking pot.. When confronted about this, he dissmissed it as "youthful experimentation".. What about the other thousands that were arrested for their "youthful experimenation", Jorge??? under your laws too!

It has always been my belief that marijuana and alcohols legal status should be switched.. however, that is not the case, and I still choose to drink.. Actually, it is my belief that alcohol should be banned and that GHB be legalised... GHB..... Far superior to alcohol, as it is nontoxic(to the brain or liver), an overdose will not cause a coma, doesnt require iungesting calories(you wont get fat), and is more euphoric!! However, back to the buisness thing.. Only our society would allow a killer substance to be sold when there is a perfectly, almost totally safe subsitute out there.

Hard as it may be to believe, weed cant do everything.. For many, alcohol lets people relax, and dissolves social anxiety, making the persons night more enjoyable, and sucessful in making friends, having fun, and having intamate contact.. Second only to MDMA in this sense, IMO.. Also plenty of people do this without harming anyone, and not even making a jackass of themselves. Weed, raises inhibtions IMO, and is only good for socialising with peolple you know.. Alcohol on the other hand, makes you comfortable with social risk taking, and eases your interactions with strangers.. Notice that drinkers usually have the most friends(however the opposite is ture for alcoholics).

Alcohol also has euphoria.. Even if its not that much more than weed.. Weed, IMO, has the least amount of euphoria of any of the drugs.

For me however, let me have a combination... For crazy parties, usually 5 drinks and a couple weed hits makes the night perfectally..(er, for less crazyness, I usually leave weed outta the mix).. And for getting straight fucked up, weed can always take you to the next level, when adding extra alcohol would be dangerous.

happy drinking!

this is simply not true. delerium tremens are not the shakes that many people are acquainted with. what most people think of as the shakes is generally caused by lack of vitamin b in their diety (alcohol inhibits the absorbtion of b vitamins). DTs are FAR FAR FAR more severe, and generally speaking only the worst drunks will come anywhere close to experiencing them, and it takes a LONG time of constant drinking to get to that point.

here is some good info on DT.
I stand corrected, thankyou. However the point I was trying to make is that alcohol is a very addictive drug, and should be treated with a certain amount of respect, like many other drugs.

Any moves towards legalisation would have to have some kind of regulation, part of any process to legalise cannabis would also contain details about production, sale and taxation. It wouldn't take long for the government to start making money from cannabis!

The oil can also be refined to make fuels and plastics, and there would be plenty of industries willing to make use of this, although the growing methods for recreational and industrial use would be very different!

Your elected representatives have a duty to serve your interests, write to your congressmen and women, tell them your views, explain to them the benefits of legalisation. Change won't happen over night, but get involved in the process. You might not change their mind, but at elast they are becoming more informed!

This is an excellent point, and its the reason that people shouldn't worry overly about convincing politicians. Politicians tend to folow the mood of the voters. The people that need convincing are the general public. Write letters to newspapers, stand as political candidate yourself. Demonstrate that drugs aren't simply the stronghold of the criminal, but in fact the law creates criminals of perfectly ordinary men and women, who areintellgient, with respectable jobs etc. The only reason criminals and drugs are linked is becasue its illegal. Like in the times of prohibition, the only reason there were gangs involved with alcohol is because it was illegal.

If you can convince the public, the politicians will soon follow the votes. Get yourselves out there and campaign.

yeah, saying that no1 goes to rehab for smoking MJ is lying. there are actually a great number of ppl who do it, but they are nowhere near as troubled as teh alcoholics, nor in as great a danger of dying from it, or the delirium. and the number of ppl in rehab for MJ is about 1/1000000000000th the number of alcoholics

can you supply some factual figures for "great number", "nowhere near", etc. or could you state upon what this opinion is based? if it's a hunch or hearsay, please say this.

thanks
