sometimes people say
some lives are forever doomed
condemned to suffer in pain
no matter what you try to do
because that's your life's bane

you've always lived a hard life
things never went your way
you fought so hard to live a life
overcoming obstacles when most
would have admitted defeat
you began life anew since then
it seemed your hurdles passed

since then you've started a family
fate seems to have decided
to give you a break
alas it was only a distraction
from what was yet to come

the family's braced itself for the worst
nan's been told the news
she doesn't seem too upset
but deep down you know it's not the truth
the worst fears of every mother
having to bury a child before its time

I still feel anger at the lot you have been dealt
it's not fair that this should happen
but what's been done is done
we can only try to make you feel comfortable
and pray that the worst is over
and that you wouldn't feel too much pain
if the worst is yet to come

For an uncle who's diagnosed with cancer and where the prognosis isn't good.

He's gone.

The call I've been dreading came today
Rousing me from restless sleep
Even though prepared it still seem so surreal
That someone is gone just like that.

I feel sad for the loved ones he left behind
A mother, a wife and a very young son
No doubt his siblings and their children feel sad too
But imagine the pain the mother and wife are experiencing.

But in a way I am glad your suffering is at an end.
No more physical pain that tears at everyone's heart
The pain of losing you wil linger for a while
But at least I guess, we can smile and say you're no longer suffering.

I'm glad I managed to catch up with you last year.
