milk's not always a cure but that's why parents sometimes give their young ones warm milk.


I've been having insomnia problems lately as I've quit using illicit drugs and I've found that a glass of warm milk and a cookie or two for the carbs helps me out a little.

typically carbs=energy


but i use benedryl, trying to cut back on how often i use cuz i need 100mg+ if i want to get tired. i stilll wanna try melatonin though.
 
My problem is I have been tapering off oxy's and I am almost done ( from 140-160 mg a day to 40 mg. a day) and insomnia and restlesness has set in. And I take benzos. The worst taper for me was from 60 mg a day to 40 mg. and I took 4 klonopins, 2 xanax bars, 2 temazepams, 2 clonidine, 1 phenigran, and smoked a bunch of pot. I was stumbling into the walls but still could not stay still cause of the opiate withdrawal. I only have another couple weeks and I will be opiate free. How long after stopping does it effect your sleep. And how long after til the cravings go away. I know I am doing something positive in my life and am determined to stop but I think about getting high ALL the time. How long til this eases up? Thanks

No offense but you're hijacking the thread, although you seem to have a lot of courage and I wish you the best for your taper.
 
A litre is quite a bit of milk to be drinking before I sleep, I'd rather just take a melatonin supplement...

i recently bought Schiff brand melatonin. it has 3mg melatonin and 25mg theanine (according to bottle; L-theanine is a natural compound found in green tea, used for it's calming and stress relief properties.)

Says not to exceed 10mg of melatonin a day so i take 3 pills (9mg) about an hour before bed and it doesn't seem to do anything to help fall asleep but I do think it helps me stay asleep somewhat better and definitely doesn't leave you groggy in the morning.


anyone else get positive results using melatonin?
 
I have been taking 5-htp [veg] capsules. Very similar in effect to drinking milk before bed. I really dig the dreams it produces.

Sleep therapy, ftw.

1-Don't eat them more than 3 times within 7days.

2-Don't mix with alcohol unless you know what you're doing.

3-If you end up eating all 24 .5's in under 5 days, then you have a problem.

curious as well. most common OTC's i hear of are benedryl and melatonin

I also take 5-htp. 2 (50mg) caps before bed along with melatonin. definitely know what your talking about with the dreams. it's weird.

On a normal night i never ever seem to have dreams (even though we all do) and on nights when i do i can hardly recall them.

when i take the 5-htp it's almost like my dreams are movies that seem to play out a full story of events and then when i wake up i can remember them in pretty good detail.

I know Tickle My Pickle personally... and he doesn't take all 24 in 5 days, i don't know where you got that idea?

and also why not take them more than 3 times a week? Even if he took 1 .5mg pill a day he's not at a very high risk for addiction or seizures. If he continued this routine for months at a time than i would agree but that's not the case. He takes them as needed not daily anyways.

and i'm not trying to be a dick so don't take it that way
 
I always eat a bowl of cereal before i go to bed, just a habit i picked up yearss ago... but i guess this explains alot. :D
 
Ah yes, the good ol' glass of warm milk before bed.

Known about that for years, parents used to give me a glass before sleeping when I was a child.

Unfortunately I'm no longer a child but a full blown insomniac so I need stuff that doctors prescribe.

trust, i take loprazolam, diazepam, meprobamate, cyamemazine, aceprometazine and acepromazine before bed (all Rx) and i've noticed a difference with a bottle of milk... and it can't be placebo coz this is before i knew that it containe melatonin
