Football

I love football. More than your average girl. Just sitting here watching the Saints @ 49ERs waiting for the Pats/Broncos game to start. I really want to see Saints @ Patriots. I'm a big Pat's fan, always will be, but recently I've been following the Saints too. I really enjoy watching their Offensive line.. Colston, Sproles, Graham, Meachem and Pierre Thomas. I just like them. Never been to New Orleans, never even been to Louisiana even.. but I really like them. Can't say I like Brees though because Brady is definitely stuck in my heart (not in a "oh he's so hot" kinda way though).

But, the 49ERs literally just got their game-ending touchdown. BOO. Well, at least I'll be able to boo indefinitely when the Pat's opponent scores next week and won't be happy if it's a Colston or Sproles TD! At least I can really show disappointment or worry if the Patriots are losing and won't have to secretly be happy either way!

Kick off! Well, good luck to the Pats! My brother is at the game. Lucky him, although I wouldn't want to go. There's something about sitting in below 10 degrees weather for 4 hours around screaming drunks that doesn't seem appealing. (Wow! Patriots TD not even two minutes into the game! Awesome. This is gonna be a good one!). I despise obnoxiously loud drunks. In fact I don't even like yelling in general. I'm a very quiet person. I never yell, guess that's why. I don't even like when the person next to me is yelling. Don't get me wrong, I thoroughly enjoy going to sporting events despite obnoxiously loud drunks. It's more the cold weather that bothers me.

I hate hate hate the cold! :X Totally with I were still in Miami for this winter. Although if given the choice, I would rathe suffer through the cold and be here all winter long and be with my friends, than be down there in the warmth knowing no one at all and having nothing to do! I'll take my friends and family any day! Not even a hard decision there.

My friends, and family, have been so great to me these past two years or so that they saved my life. I believe it was them that helped me through this tough recovery and I wish I were good at saying thank you and showing gratitude. I don't know how to thank people as they deserve. If I could, I'd be on my hands and knees washing their paths with a toothbrush for everything they've done for me. If I only knew how to say that without sounding like I'm over-exaggerating and like I'm just saying it to be nice. I've definitely thanked them, I just wish I could show them somehow. Though for some reason I think deep down they know how grateful I am to have them in my life.

If it weren't for them, I wouldn't be home enjoying this football game!

Go Pats!! Woowoo! <3

Awesome another true female football fan out there. Im a Dallas fan all the way. I also follow Miami, SF and sometimes Atlanta. NFL has become a huge hobby for me being at home single mother. I become more interested all the time. Love the new stadium here... you gotta check it out!!! SF has this year in the bag. Been a lifetime fan of all sports mostly just nfl though. Tomboy but growing into a lady at 26. WHY CANT WE HAVE A LEAGUE? I played as a child and can throw a spiral better than all my boyfriends, they are shocked. Do you play yourself? Great to see more sports post lets get it started!!! Weird I almost though I had written your above article. Miami is my second home. I was there in May last year. But it rained the whole time!!! Mad!!! Going back soon prob fall next time! DALLAS COWBOYS AMERICA'S TEAM. Love your spirit sweetheart :)

I totally don't get American football. I mean, I don't get team sport in general, but that game (and baseball) are especially perplexing.

^i don't get it either dave. i've had people try to explain it to me numerous times, i think i really just don't want to get it. apparently football is kind of like chess, but i don't understand that either haha.

Footballs awesome. I don't get golf, tennis, cricket, any of that boring one t a time crap either. (tho mini golf is fantastic!). Football gives you reasons to cheer! People to love, people to hate, people for you to love to hate or hate to love! (right southern devil?). Haha I'm 26 too! And you know, you probably could have written my post because yes, I do play (well, not lately bc of my surgery) and when I play, I am QB with a spiral better than all the guys too! Maybe bc I'm left handed. But I can throw a football for sure!

I always wanted to play, I almost signed up for youth football but unfortunately my Drs wouldn't allow, no hockey either, which I def woulda played.. Couldn't do the contact (enlarged spleen..) but I did play soccer, softball and basketball my whole life!

I was in Raiders Stadium in OAK.. That's not the same one that the 49ERs use right? It's gotta be a different one, they're close tho! I'm a Pats fan foremost, then the Dolphins I've liked since before I knew what football was! When I was young and went to FL, I fell in love with their colorful jerseys haha! But my next fav is the Saints. I can't explain why, but it is. Fantasy football probably has a lot to do with it. I had Colston and Sproles on my team then picked up Meachem and Thomas throughout the season (two different teams).

Since you like football so much southern devil, you should totally try Fantasy! It's sooo much fun, especially where you like so many teams, you can tailor your team from those teams so when they play for real it gives you even more of a reason to vote for them. I'm totally doing a league next season, you can join if you'd like? If you don't already play, I can totally teach you!

Why would you love or hate these people-- what have they ever done for you?

I understand it intellectually, but I just don't get why people get so worked up about it. Or rather, I get that intellectually too (mob psychology, mirror neuron 'empathy', etc...), but it just doesn't do anything for me.

Cool that you like it though!

I dunno, maybe some of it is a sense of living vicariously through their success? They do well it makes you happy? Maybe you have similarities, like the same hometown/alma mater that makes you feel connected and therefore want them to do well? I know a lot of women, I'm guilty sometimes, often have celebrity crushes on athletes! It's not unheard of! I mean it's the same as being someone's fan?

You must have someone you enjoy following: whether it's an athlete, a musician or even an actor.. Could even be a writer. If you like them you'd want them to succeed? Which is where the cheering, loving, hating comes in. If you like a team (hometown pride is the mot common reason), you want them to succeed, generally speaking! A main reason is bragging rights! I know when the Pats play the Jets, or the Red Sox play the Yanks, I tease my cousins who live in NY about it!

It provides you with entertainment, biggest reason. Bragging rights are great too. I mean baseball is "America's favorite pastime". You can watch, play yourself, or you can even study it. Stats, history, colleges even offer History of Sports classes! So sports are definitely a huge part of American culture.

And most people get so worked up is, I think, because of bragging rights, or mainly they've put a bet down on the outcome! For example I play fantasy football. This year, we had 10 teams, the winning team won $700! So that definitely gives me a good reason to watch the placers on my team to succeed!

hi southern devil i see your an american football fan. coming from england our football is a bit different to yours. as i understand your game is mainly throwing the ball as far as you can and touching down on the line. while ours is to kick a football to try and score inside the posts, and the back of the net. i support aston villa, a team based in birmingham england. we have an american chairman called randy lerner, he is chairman of cleveland browns american football team.
