I was prescribed Luvox in 2000, along with Xanax. ( And various other meds).
Luvox (fluvoxamine) and Serzone (which was discontinued due to liver toxicity) inhibit the metabolism of Xanax ( and other triazolo- benzos), leading to doubles and even fourfold the amount of alprazolam in blood stream.
Nefazodone makes the amount of triazolo benzos increase 4fold.
Fluvoxamine inhibits CYP450 3A4, making alprazolam and other triazolo benzos 2fold.
I tried Luvox and Xanax, that, even taking 0.5mg made me feel unwell. It sorts of different like taking 1mg Xanax, and 0.5mg xanax with Luvox. The effect is different, although theoretically, it makes triazolo type benzos doubles. ( Midazolam, triazolam which both are hypnotics).
Many antidepressants block this isoenzyme.
But, diazepam, mainly are substrates of other type of isoenzyme, not this particular one. So taking Fluoxetine, Paroxetine would be another pathway to inhibit the metabolism of Diazepam, leading an increased in bloodstream.
Has anyone experience combo of Luvox and xanax? ( I guess it's a more kind of oversedated dysphoric feeling, like taking dimenhydrinate which molecules are partly atropine and partly diphenhydramine. ). To me it's a worst combo.
