Fluoride what are your views?

^ Facepalm..

Go and hold a flame under a running tap.. WHY DOESN'T IT BURN!? IT'S 66.6% HYDROGEN!?!? 8)

I mean god damn.
Did you even read what I said?

Note that "they" refers to people spouting random shit about prozac.

Edit: Sorry, in reference to the above post. I didn't realize this was only about flouride in tap water.

I grew up in a city that had fluoride in the water. My husband did not. Our dentist has commented multiple times on how much better my teeth are than his, and attributes it to the drinking water. So I am glad that there was fluoride in my drinking water.

Portland continuosly votes down the floridation of its water supply.
Pretty sure I've always lived in cities with floridated water (3 in total).
I do not give it much thought but given how much tap water I consume I hope I'm not harming myself somhow :\

Wow forgot to check back on this thread. I learned a lot of information thanks guys, i still agree that it is unethical to have it forced upon us through our drinking water.
But i am going to tell my tin foil hat friend to fuck off, as i believe it does have some benefits.

As an RDH, I'm pro-prevention and ultimately pro fluoride! I've seen incipient carious lesions literally disappear from placing my patients on a strict fluoride regimen. This includes a 1.1% sodium fluoride toothpaste and always applying 5% varnish at recalls.

Anytime I get someone who declines due to "toxicity" I call them a stupid hippie and laugh when they come back with a mouth full of decay!

3 cheers for prevention!!

^ People get cavities from their lifestyle habits or ill health, not because they don't use fluoride. Tooth pulp is alive and so is linked to every other part of the body's health.

I don't object to people's choice to use fluoride but it's problematic of some dental professionals to heavily promote it while ignoring many aspects of holistic heath.

Cities in Europe have actually found that rates of problems are less since removing fluoride from water. But at the same time they had access to fluoride toothpaste. I know I should back this up with a source but its probably one of many claims out there.

I grew up in one of the last cities in my state to put fluoride in water. I have bad teeth, but its mostly from grinding. Brother and sister don't seem to have issues. Nor do my friends. Dad is 70 and although has fillings still has most of his teeth.

Anyone know if there is any weight in the claims that it calcifies the pineal gland?

Whenever you do a fluoride rinse at the dentist, they make you spit it out thoroughly. My dentist even suctions my mouth to make sure it's all gone.

So why is it ok to put it into drinking water for ingestion?

So much bullshit in this thread.

Water fluoridation is a safe cheap and effective public health measure that was started because it was noticed that people who lived in areas with a water source with naturally high fluoride had less dental problems.
Poor dental health is associated with all kinds of negative health outcomes, cardiac disease is just one that springs to mind.

Who about chlorine in the water? Iodine in Salt?

Don't let uneducated idiots play to your fears. Here is links to a huge amount of info debunking the whole pineal gland bullshit along with all the rest.

^ Just because people are questioning, does not make them uneducated or idiots. Cool it with the rhetoric, okay?

Of course not. Questioning is fine, admirable even. The people who get in here and assert these fluoride myths as fact - people who spread this fear in the community which cause people to not get their kids immunized..
It is a willful kind of ignorance

Last time I checked, we were talking about fluoride, not vaccines. :?

Typo, it should have read

Of course not. Questioning is fine, admirable even. The people who get in here and assert these fluoride myths as fact are the same sort of people who spread this fear in the community which cause people to not get their kids immunized..

Fluoride is a public health intervention as is vaccination, both are subject to these stupid conspiracy theories that are based in nothing.

I would just like to share an article I have just read regarding Flouride:

http://news.nationalpost.com/2013/0...upply-despite-lack-of-evidence-it-is-harmful/

I am happy to know that some of the municipalities in Canada have stopped adding Flouride. Whether it is harmful or not, it is always better to be on the safer side.

and you are a moderator for healthy living?

^yes and I am guessing you are complaining? What is it that you are complaining about the post? Could you explain why I deserve you questioning my post?

People are entitled to their own beliefs and opinion so instead of being rude you should try to respect the information everyone is contributing to this thread. If their is something you disagree with at least say it in a more diplomatic way instead of noting "so much bullshit happening on this thread."

You are very judgmental Mr Middleway, people who have posted on this thread posted not to spread fear which you are claiming but this is the knowledge that they are aware of regarding Flouride so please stop with your arrogance.

re-mineralization , oil pulling, and a healthy diet have worked miracles on my jacked up grill, more than listerine, flossing, brushing, dentistry , and flouride in the water.,

i still brush and floss,

try to avoid foods high in phytic acid,
i feel as if you dont correct the behavior all the fluoride and oil pulling or whatever you do, dont mean jack

i do buy into the anti fluoride hype think the cons outweigh the pros

The whole reason fluoride is added to water is because it was observed that people living in areas with naturally high levels of fluoride in the groundwater had less tooth decay. The evidence is pretty solid that trace amounts of fluoride do strengthen teeth.

wiki said:
Fluoride's adverse effects depend on total fluoride dosage from all sources. At the commonly recommended dosage, the only clear adverse effect is dental fluorosis, which can alter the appearance of children's teeth during tooth development; this is mostly mild and is unlikely to represent any real effect on aesthetic appearance or on public health.

There's not much evidence to suggest that the controlled levels of fluoride in drinking water are harmful in either the short or the long term.

To me, speaking out against fluoridation is kind of like complaining about fortified cereal grains, or adding vitamin D to milk. It's done for the public good, and because the cost saving on healthcare outweigh the expenditures in implementing a program like fortifying flour with B vitamins. (And we don't see many cases of vitamin D poisoning from milk consumption...)

I don't care to drink industrial waste. I would be very happy if the city of Denver decided to remove it. Its bad enough that I'm drinking all kinds of trace amounts of antidepressants and birth control when I have a glass of water as it is.
