Heroin Fluid In Lungs, Weezing, Heroin Binge

I'm not 100 percent. But it is day two since I quit shooting dope (back on subs). I was shooting a lot more than normal. Another funny thing, I found these pills that had pseudo/Guaifenesin that I had from the doctor and took one of those yesterday and just tried to drink lots of water and stuff. Last night I rarely woke up coughing, and this morning I feel a lot less tension in my chest. I feel like I'm getting better, but if I don't feel like I have made a full recovery soon I will go in.
 
Don't worry any recovery is good recovery. I have had extreme lung problems [not preexisting] when I was not only snorting dope, but prevalent when SHOOTING. Why? For putting out a mental picture, dope is a respiratory depressant and I picture it like ATTACKING my lungs in a big shitty hug.. unable to work properly and feel heavy and wheeze and cough.

Surely it's what smoeoen mentioned before, your cough was suppressed all this time, and your lungs were sort of not working hard as they normally would and getting INFLAMED and full of mucous. Therefore, when you're layin off the dope more and your lungs are back to their functioning, they realize they have alot of shit to cough up now.
People don't realize [and when I say that, I mean sometimes many doctors!] that it's inflammation, not wheezing from lung collapsing, therefore albuterol wont do shit if you're not getting lung function [in this case]. You can go to your doctor and get steroids, or even better, a steroid inhaler such as symbicort [you puff once or twice a day] until your lungs are better.


EDIT: My experience with this- I was shooting alot of dope and ended up being hospitalized with 70% oxygen [you receive more oxygen if you even have only one fully functioning lung!!] and of course did not let them know abotu my opiate addiction. They just treated it like an exacerbation from allergies, possible newly developed asthma, etc.

My doctor gave me both albuterol and steroid inhaler and I looked up like symptoms of COPD which is not what we would have, but it's a chronic condition that has the similar properties of what happens to our lungs after depressing them with things like heroin etc.
If you go to your doctor, hell never know[yes its always best to disclose everything but i know how it is] about your drug use, and mention that a friend told you about his steroid inhaler, etc.

This may have already been said, but I will say it anyway. The heroin suppressed the cough you had as that is a side effect of narcotics. This shut down what was probably a "productive" cough and allowed the buildup of mucous in your chest. Could be from a bronchial infection, a sinus infection, maybe an allergy to something blooming right now. Since you have stopped the narcotic now, the cough is your bodies way of getting rid of the excess mucous. ALWAYS a good idea to get medical opinion.

Also, I don't know your health habits, but if you are not eating correctly, getting enough sleep,and moderate exercise, then you may have a weakened immune system allowing your body to respond poorly. Of course the addiction itself can weaken your immune system.

Would be a good idea to go to the emergency room and get checked out. But as long as you are coughing up something I would not use a narcotic.
 
Yeah, there's a lot of good answers in this thread. Unfortunately, we can't tell you what exactly caused it, but if you were to go to a doctor and report back, the visit would be really beneficial for you, and the information obtained would be really useful to us all!

this is sorta incorrect. the reason withdrawal makes you cough is because of receptors, not mucus. the opiate inhibited cough, causing a dependence/tolerance. take away opiate, and the same pathway that the opiate caused coughing will now have too little opiates and send the opposite message. so mucus or no mucus, water or none, need to or not need to, you'll most likely cough anyway during w/d
 
yup i agree with you. Just the OP mentioned the mucous/fluid in lungs he/she had. And the lack of the cough creates mucous. Well one of the reasons as coughing helps clear out impurities. Not that he has mucous which makes him cough- because I realize that would lead to improper treatment suggestions such as mucinex or something for this particular case instead of maybe steroids and a few other things So I wanted to I guess, emphasize why in this particular case there would be lots of mucous. If I'm making sense AND reading you right. :P
 
Well there are some differences to look for the pnuemonia. The mucus/flem that you cough up will usually not be clear or you will quickly notice it looking green. I caught pnuemonia recently and the only real sign at first was the mucus and its color I was hacking up, but it was combined with a very bad cough, not any regular cough, coughing binges where you would cough and hack over and over all day long, 5-6-7 coughs in a row until something came out. It quickly becomes very obvious theres a bigger problem. You may also lose your breath very easily, such as when you walk up a flight of stairs or something similar. You will be like "wow, im out of breath" and have to take a couple deep breaths to feel normal.

If it is obvious theres a real problem then go to the emergency room even without insurance. They would even give you all you need there so you dont even have to see a doctor. You would have to take a strong antibiotic for a little while. Problem is you would have to pay for the scripts, but sometimes if you tell the doctor you have no insurance they can write more common medications that are cheaper. There are a few different antibiotics that will help pnuemonia the same, but a couple newer ones with maybe less possible side's can be more expensive.

Probally a 5 day dose of zythromax witch is cheap and has a generic. And the phlem doesn't always present green. Phlem is phlem regardless of color, color will just give you a broader sence of what kind of infecion it is.

yes this is true

notice how you can get cough medicine in a syrup (which you usually see) or tablets?

Most people think oh shit I need a syrup to sooth my throat, but coughing is a result of activity in your brain, that's why coughing pills will work just as well.

it's somethin like that lol..

Doin much better just so u know. Hacking is at a minimum, and i'm not waking up to cough. I can go to the health center at my college for free, but the scripts aren't. I'm gonna do that. The thing is that my health center is like 50 minutes away which sucks. I quit using for 5 days and just took a home-test and am clean finally.
 
hey guys not to hijack this thread but i was very curious about the conditions one develops from shooting H and the lung diseases that people are worried about.

I have been using for about 3 months and notice after a binge my lungs, they feel like someone has hit me in the chest usually it only last for the first 24-48 hours up to the end of my binge

is this a sign of an increasing problem?

I was kinda thinking pulmonary edema from the heroin... but I don't know why it would be from that?

my bad for bumping a thread from 3 years ago...but a google search landed me here, and i've got EXACTLY the same issue Racecar mentioned here...but with Hydromorphone that i've got my script for. (almost identical to H)

The strange wheezing / difficulty breathe'ing only occurs while withdraw is occurring and most severe while i'm sleeping.... 2 to 3 days after stopping completely the wheezing / difficulty breathe'ing goes away completely.

But this is an issue everytime I go on and off it. (no health insurance here either....plus costs are insane here)

Albuterol does help... but only a little.

Good cough drops (Halls) help significantly ....with the severe cough...from going through withdrawal.

We need to brainstorm more what this could be. And my coughing up mucos isn't always clear....brown mostly.... plz don't start with the 'go to the doctor' junk...this has been an on and off issue for me with years...if it was a severe lung issue, i'd probably be dead by now.

I do have allergies though...and minor allergenic asthma. I'm sure i'm probably allergic to it, and it's part of the reason why i'm having these symptoms.

But it's odd how it completely goes away 3 days after stopping completely....but comes back when going back on it.

the wheezing and difficulty breathe'ing gets scary occasionally while sleeping...good think I got the albuterol within arm's reach. Nothing else gives me an asthmatic reaction like this. I'm starting to think when withdrawing, for some reason...the lungs take the biggest hit. (trying to detox all that junk) I can almost taste it when coughing.

Any update Racecar since the last few years ?

Seducedsoul: very similar to my situation, as well as everyone elses. I've been on methadone for about 5 years now. Been in the hospital about 5 times. Told me it was Hypersensitivity, that something was causing it. And that I was inflamed but my lungs were fine, no permanent damage. Had allergy testing, rid of my cat, brarces, and wheat in diet, I was allergic to, had surgery on my nose for sinus problems, quit smoking but still never worked. They misdiagnosed me with pnuemonia in both lungs, maybe possible first signs of emphysema, chronic bronchitis, allergies, and finally just stuck me with asthma...as I've never had problems before. Well nothing has improved. So I started to think I had COPD as I ressearched all of the possible signs and symptoms. Then I thought to of had parasites attacking my body. Nothing Id changed would work. Until I was not able to get my script and for three weeks without my lungs started hacking all the shit up as someone else earlier had said and I could breathe. I got my script back and all of a sudden all my symptoms started coming back I felt the spit mucus in my throat I would cough as it would choke me and can't breathe once again. Could this be an allergy or as I think, prolonged side effects from this medicine? Please someone help share their thoughts if they may think they know anything although I already have it in my mind that this is what it HAS to be. I've been SOOOO Miserable and just want to be able to breathe, mostly. Mine started with spitting and hacking all day, then to not being ablle to breathe which would leave me in the hospital, to now learning how to deal with it, to now coughing and having all symptoms at once. Its all day everyday. My quality of Life is zero. I don't want to withdrawal and not be able to function at work is there another alternative medicine that I could be switched on? As I have also read, pretty much all opiates can do this bec.they have the potential. Although some are stronger, like methadone itself, maybe one could work for me. Please feel free to give any advice I would appreciate it. Thanks
 
^Thats exactly it, its hypersensitivity. I suffer from it from opiates/opioids, but it hasn't stopped me from abusing them heavily. The inflame my nasal membranes and my lungs (I snort almost exclusively), using corticosteroids pretty much eliminates the problem.
 
I get this so bad that I have difficulty saying more than a few words without having to clear my throat. It's very embarrassing in most interactions with people. It has improved a lot since going on suboxone.

I'll look into the hypersensitivity thing, thanks.
 
Yeah its pretty fuckin embarrasing, I'd say. :/ wwhat corticosteroids can I take? I've honestly taken everything under the sun from prednisone to levoflaxcin and antibiotics n I'm on albuteral inhaler and breathing machine right now also. I also found it very weird I didnnt have to use my inhaler at all not even once when I didn't have my meds.for a few weeks. Cuz I've been searching for so long to find out like wth is wrong with me? You kno but then I found this thread and this is the only one that was helpful. I know methadone stays in ur mucus and fat cells but can other opiates do this just as much? Cuz methadone is strong opiate. Now I was thinkin of somethin like what if my doc.switched me on Perc.10 do u think that would help or be a problem? Id notice when I'm on a lower or less strong opiod I don't have this problem really so id think like oxycontin morphine or opana would probly not be good for mme to take? I'm assuming.. but idk really. That's why I'm hear to find answers. Anyways thanks for ur replys!
