Though the general consensus of the medical field is that these substances are pure hooey, or at best a placebo effect... I have extensive working knowledge of flower essences (Bach remedies and others) and find them to be very effective and helpful, especially for unbalanced spirit/mind/emotional states.

I'd like to offer up a few informational tidbits that perhaps someone will find to be of use.

Flower essences are a unique healing modality... these are NOT the essential oils used in aromatherapy, but rather, are subtle and highly diluted liquid extracts of specific wildflowers and the flowering parts of certain trees. They are not homeopathic medicines, but share some of the qualities of that field of alternative medicine.

They are inexpensive, fast acting, free of side effects and though subtle, quite effective.
You do not have to 'believe' in them to have them work, in fact, they work very well on small children and animals and can make a noticeable positive change in behavior and mental/emotional state almost immediately in most cases.

Dosage is usually 4 drops from the bottle on the tongue or into a glass of water and sipped. They can also be used externally.

I have found several to be of use to counter the negative effects one may experience with recreational drugs and I would like to offer a few of them up here.

Rescue Remedy (a Bach flower remedy, probably the most well known) is a combination of 5 flowers which is a general aid for stress, panic, trauma and anxiety.
If you get or try just one essence, make it this one as it has so many uses.
A single dose will provide a sense of calmness and relief. Rescue Remedy is great to stabilize the personality and can be used as often as needed.
It works well for physical trauma as well... my son slammed his finger in a car door and was in great pain. I applied a few drops directly on his finger and gave him a few drops orally... the next morning I asked him how his finger was, and he literally checked all his fingers... could not remember which one it was he had slammed to door on. Seriously.

Recently a coworker fell and scraped his knee up pretty bad... again, an application of RR and he said the pain just about disappeared immediately and by the next day had healed up much more than it would have if left untreated.

Many uses for this stuff... great for panic and anxiety so it would help a lot with difficult trips or bad drug experiences.

ASPEN - The flower essence from this tree is specific for fears and disturbances of an unknown cause. Being creeped out or having a feeling of impending doom is a good indication of when to use this essence. Great for 'bad trips', demonic overtones.

WHITE CHESTNUT - For mental agitation, inability to sleep due to an overactive mind. Thoughts repeating endlessly. Hamster wheel mind. Quiets the thought process without suppressing it.

IMPATIENS - For irritation of the body and mind. Itching. Inflammation. Very calming and healing for stimulant overuse.

CHERRY PLUM - For obsessive thoughts or emotions. The feeling of being driven or being in a pressure cooker. Feeling as though you could lose your mind? This is the flower remedy for that state.

WALNUT - Very protective and useful if one is facing a major change. Great aid for those trying to kick a certain drug or for the psychological component of going through withdrawals.

CLEMATIS - Grounding, helps one 'come back to reality'.

SWEET CHESTNUT - Counters despair, being at the end of one's rope, the grinding anxiety of not being able to take any more.

MUSTARD - Great for those who are deeply depressed, it lifts the 'black cloud'.

Many other flower essences are available, but the above list is a few I figure some here could find to be of use.

shifting from homeless threads to psychedelic drugs. PD mods if this isn't quite up your alley, shift it somewhere more appropriate :)

this seems kinda neat :3
i wonder where he picked all this up from :O
i want to go essence hunting now, it'd be useful as fuuuuu

Well, I've been using flower essences for myself, family and friends for over 35yrs now... I am always surprised how little known they are within the mass consciousness. I am a certified Bach Essence practitioner but consider myself more of an investigator/educator when it comes to these substances.

There's quite a bit of info on the web about these if anyone is interested and they can be found at most well stocked health food stores.

All I can say is try some out and see for yourself...

I'd be glad to answer any questions, but the basics are well covered on the web.

I really do consider them as spiritual medicines.

i love flower essences.

'Alaskan Essences' is another quality source for flower essences. They also make 'environmental essences', infused with the energies of a particular time and place - 'northern lights', 'polar ice', 'solstice midnight sun', 'solar eclipse', etc...

<3 yay for subtle energy work <3

I had a bad experience with RR - made my panic worse... I had a naturopath who had mixed up a custom prep for me and it worked great but she is in Texas now. :(

I have not tried them, but there are several sites selling flower essences made from sacred plants such as caapi, salvia divinorum, etc.

In theory they should tap into the spiritual aspects of these plants and while not psychoactive, they should represent a 'higher octave' of the plant consciousness / human interface.

Lots of space for investigation.

I have run into a few examples of this... what I find is that a different approach or mix will be the key for that individual (determined through Q and A, intuition and the skill of the practitioner) and once the underlying issue is relieved, using RR will not cause the same reaction. Rare though, but it shows that each individual is unique even as we share a commonality in our 'humanness'.

Rescue Remedy is certainly not the only flower essence (mix) to treat panic disorders, though in general it works very well for most people.

i think most bluelighters here will agree with me in saying that, that is fucking bullshit.

homeopathy is also bullshit.

pharmacologically inactive substances are just that, inactive.

i have to agree and disagree.

i can't see how nano grams of (insert some common substance here) diluted 1000x would do anything at all... and i have known a few that have had bunk tabs that totally expected to trip and did not.

however...

the placebo effect is totally 100% proven to be effective - i'm sure you read what Shulgin had to say about it...

so there it is - if the power is in your head for it to work - it will work.

"Typical homeopathic remedies are diluted to something nearer to 30C, which is 1/10^60, a dilution of 1 in 1,000,000,000,000,000,000,000, 000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000."

yes and that is a wonderful example of how powerful the human mind is! but we shouldn't get it confused with pharmacologically active substances!

While I agree about the homeopathic nonsense, there is definitely something to aromatherapy and flower essences... they definitely have effects on the nervous system.

I'm certain the majority agrees with you, that this is all BS and yes, these substances are not pharmacologically active.

The current western scientific/medical view is that any positive results from using these can be attributed to the placebo effect, and nothing more. There is no currently accepted model for the mechanism by which either flower essences or homeopathy could possibly work.

That said, there may be more to our being than the just classical bio-mechanic model. Voodoo and metaphysics aside, it's a strange world out there.
My own experience has been that these substances do indeed work, and I think it goes beyond the power of suggestion alone.

Those Rescue remedy pills really help me if i am having an incredibly depressed day more so than usual. My mom got a bottle of these tiny little pearls and you are susposed to dissolve them underneath your tongue, Tasted very sweet, more so than any placebo...

i dunno, i'd have to say that for me, there was indeed some sort of conciousness altering aspect do them. But, like not for everyone.
I think really it just depends on what your mental condition is.
