Florida's Oldest Tree Burned Down By Woman Smoking Meth Beneath It

This seems like such a strange place to go to get high on meth. I can't imagine being in the woods all strung out and not having slept in days. Just imagine the strange things you'd see and hear in the woods when you're like that.

I think the real point that needs to be made here though, is that this woman may be an idiot, but she may well have been one her whole life, with drugs not having anything to do with it. I've done lots of stupid things and a lot of those happened while on drugs, but I have never once used being intoxicated as an excuse for why I did something. If I did something, I either wanted to do it or it happened due to me being an idiot, drugs or no drugs.

3500 hundred years is a good run, it's sad when people destroy our oldest keepsakes in such a way, but I'm willing to forgive an accident, whereas if some corporation or the gov't wanted to plow it down in the name of "progress" that would be another matter entirely.

Leave the trees alone and one of the 1000 year old ones might become 3500 hundred year old tree in a scant MD years. Just takes patience.

Why is everyone focussing on the fact she's a meth-head in this thread? If it was someone smoking a joint or a cigarette who did it, would you be putting as much emphasis on their drug use?
Yes! I agree. I feel people are very quick to bash on meth users, which only adds to the stigma of drug use.

This would all be solved if she had a safe place to use...she obviously wasn't thinking clearly and chose to make this poor decision but it wouldn't have been made if her problem was accepted by society and she had a solution.
I totally agree. A significant portion of problems that related to drug use are caused by the how society handles drugs and their users.
