I tested a white xmen which had some yellow and greyish speckles. When I scraped the pill onto the reagent, i got a bubling reaction and then an intense orange which then went to brown. My question is: What does the fizzing mean?

fizzing seems to indicate the presence of a tertiary amine (examples: BZP, DXM, DMT and its analogs... anything that has "dimethyl" in its name).
orange is a typical result for non-ring-substituted amphetamines (amphetamine and methamphetamine).
the erowid test page at http://www.erowid.org/chemicals/mdma/mdma_faq_testing_kits.shtml
lists a few chemicals that fizz, then turn orange.
of these, the *most likely* one you have is probably 5-MeO-DiPT, although 5-MeO-DMT (not listed) may do the same thing. i've never seen these in the GC/MS test results at dancesafe, but there's a possibility.
although it's an odd combination, methamphetamine + BZP may produce a similar effect, and it's not impossible that you would find them together.
harmine also produces, fizzing then turns orange-brown. it seems very unlikely that you would have harmine, but you should be aware that harmine is an MAOI (monoamine oxidase inhibitor, which prevents breakdown of neurotransmitters in the brain) and MAOIs are EXTREMELY DANGEROUS to combine with MDMA, amphetamines or practically any other psychoactive drug.
the one conclusion that you can definitely make is that you do not have MDMA. this is a fact. you should be aware, then, that your result could indicate any chemical at all except MDMA.

Hello..I have a question about fizzing...we have just got a batch of Rolls Royces which when tested bubble and fizz and go very very quickly to black. From past readings of this messageboard I have understood that this indicates pure MDMA...but after reading this post could somebody assure me of this...

Thanks for the info.

Remember that some of the inert fillers used in pills can react with the sulphuric acid to produce Carbon Dioxide, which fizzes. Fizzing is not just due to the active ingredient, in fact, it's more likely just the fillers.

well yes... carbonates react with acid to form carbon dioxide. although some pure substances (like BZP) will also fizz. in those cases, the fizzing is more likely hydrogen. it's also possible that a tertiary amine may release more than one mole of CO2 per mole reactant, which may explain really intense fizzing considering the sample isn't that large. it's totally possible that pure MDMA might fizz (releasing oxygen) as the methylenedioxy bridge is cleaved.
but because there's a chance the fizzing might be caused by filler, you shouldn't use fizzing to make any solid conclusions unless it's particularly extreme. fizzing is probably better for concluding DXM than MDMA.

Strong speed also fizzes quite impressively. Its fun to watch speed after you scrape it off the rock hiss and bubble and fizz and go murky brown.
