Fixing alcohol related damage & depression? Nootropics?

I've been a heavy drinker for the past 2 years. Not so much during the week, but moreso recently going on binges and suffering badly from alcohol withdrawal otherwise.

I'm working towards sobriety, and doing well.. but I'm suffering from problems of depression and mental acuity. I've also noticed, that even with breaks, alcohol no longer effects me like it used to. I tend to black out easily and a lot more, I never get much of a 'buzz', but will pass out instead. Basically all of the once positive effects of the drug have disappeared..

This isn't completely relevant, but I wanted to consider interactions as well: I've also used some MDMA, though I keep this for every 3-4 months at most, and it seems to have helped over the last year on getting my life together.

What can I do about the depression? I received a basic rx from the doc (Prozac), but I'm not sure about taking something that permanently affects my brain chemistry like it does. I've also had lots of difficulty concentrating or getting things done.. and some memory issues.

I'm taking piracetam daily (along with some choline and fish oil), and I think its helped with the mind a bit, but I'm looking to do whatever else I can (in addition to abstinence).

What other drugs/nootropics are recommended?

How about an antidepressant that would help?

i do have some anxiety issues, though its mostly alc withdrawal related if i drink.

i got a rx for prozac, never filled it. i do want to use mdma or some other psychs sometime in the future, which is why i was shying away from a ssri.

i found deprenyl (selegeline), it looks interesting. used for parkinsons, but off label for depression, apparently some nootropic effects. has anyone had any experience with it?

its tempting to just get on a typical antidepressant at this point, but what i tend to hear is that they're nearly impossible to get off. or if i ever try to, i'll be worse than when i began.

its hard for any doc to perscribe a pill for off label use...

i mean mdma wont fuck up your shit...you just wont feel it...

i mean if this is serious shit than the next day after mdma sounds suicidal...

i would talk to someone..not a gp...but a counselor or something....

help is always out there
