First vivitrol shot on the 14th.. need help..

I have been sober from Oxys for exactly 7 days now. I got the shot 5 days ago (a little too early but did not suffer with Precipitated WD as I was using a lot less recently due to family realizing my problem). I have severe insomnia ever since getting the shot. Is this because of the shot, because my brain has felt like there is electricity going through it and it feels like its keeping me awake. Or is it my brain re-adjusting to a sober life? My history is hydro pills on and off for 5 years and the last year was the worst when i got into the oxys.. went downhill fast. Hydro pills 4-10 a day then 4-8 30mg oxy a day for the last year (intranasally). Squirts are out of control and cant release gas without worrying about u know what. Someones gotta have experience here, when does the insomnia get better? And the terrible squirts? Thanks in advance
 
I always resisted getting the Vivitrol shot because of the side effects, but what you are describing sounds to me like opiate withdrawals. Things should improve after a week although some mild symptoms may linger for longer.

For what it’s worth, I used vivitrol (and oral naltrexone) to help me quit heroin.

I agree with aihfl—sounds like standard opioid withdrawal blowback. The good news is that means the symptoms will pass. The less good news is that WD symptoms such as insomnia can really linger.

One question: did your doctor try you on the oral (pill) form before jumping right to the vivitrol injection?

He gave me 3 capsules to take after detoxing, which i did and felt somewhat of PW.. then when i went into the office for the shot he said each capsule was 1mg & and the injection was 50mg. 50x more! I was freakin out that id have major PW but ended up fine. I think the dose might be a little too high for me.. will discuss with him when i go for my 2nd shot. Thanks for the replies
 
I'd have to agree with them above. For me the worst part about kicking is the mental aspects of it. I mean the physical withdrawals suck, don't get it twisted, but it wouldn't be half as bad if my emotions weren't swinging, hours didn't feel like days, and my anxiety wasn't in overdrive. For me, the physical w/ds usually last 3 days, peaking at day 2, and generally non-existent by day 4. The stomach issues last about the same time. However, the insomnia and sleep issues last longer than that for me - usually about 2 weeks, though it took me 3 weeks the last time in rehab before I actually fell asleep relatively easy and slept through the night.

A lot of people recommend Imodium to deal with the stomach issues, though I never tried it myself.

Vivitrol made it hard for me to sit down without some discomfort for a few days haha, but as much as I don't like to admit it (hate big pharma), it does its job. I felt a significantly reduced craving to the point it was damn near nonexistent. When it was in my head just knowing it'd be a waste of money was enough to prevent me from trying.

If you don't follow up on your shots and go back using after vivitrol please at least take it easy. A lot of people, myself included, who have done so seems that it further reduces your tolerance more so than similar lengths of time previously abstinent from opiates.
 
The same thing happened to me after i got the shot. My doctor told me the weird tingly feeling in my brain and sleep problems, restless leg, where because of the withdrawls. I was taking prozac at the time and everymorning after id take the prozac the brain tingles would get worse. I stopped taking the prozac and my brain tingles and zaps went away. It was really weird.
