First time Suboxone (buprenorphine) dosage question.

I have a pretty light Oxy habit. I usually do around 15-20mg daily, but only ever in one dose (I dose once a day, at night). This past week I've been doing about 30mg a day, and I've been doing Oxy total for about 2 and a half months since my last break.

I just ran out tonight and took my last dose, and won't be able to get any more until Saturday.

I know the W/D would be fairly minor because my habit has been pretty light, but I'm going to be spending tomorrow night out with my family and fiance, so I don't want to even be the tiniest bit sick.

My source in the meantime gave me half of a 8mg Sub, and I know these are EXTREMELY strong (especially relative to the dosages I've been taking of Oxy).

My question is, how much approximately should I do based on my latest tolerance of about 30mg Oxy per dose?

I was thinking of breaking the 4mg half into about 4 pieces, roughly 1mg each. Is this still way too much (If it is, this is exactly why I'm asking).

Also, is it okay to swallow these or do you really have to use them under your tongue?

I would only even take it if we're all out and I begin to feel "off." So hopefully, I'll be fine until Saturday and won't even need it. This is basically "just in case."

1mg will be plenty. I guess take the smallest 1/4 so it will be a little less than 1mg.

Under the tongue will work better than swallowing it.

Sounds great, thanks.

Is there anything side effect wise to watch out for with suboxone that wouldn't be apparent with Oxy? I know to wait until onset of W/D before dosing, and not to redose with Oxy too quickly.

Basically, anything else important to know about subs?

sounds to me like 1mg will get you pretty high from only doing 10-20mg oxy daily...overkill imo...you should just taper down from the oxy and call it quits after you taper to 2.5-5mgs

Some people get sick from taking it, and I don't mean precipitated withdrawals. I had a few friends that got really sick after taking suboxone when they had a low tolerance.

If I start to feel sick, I'll just take .5mg (the pill seems large enough to be able to break it up at least semi accurately) and see how it goes then.

I have no problem jumping off my low dosages once I taper myself back down to about 7.5mg/day, I just unexpectedly ran out (was planning to get more today, but source is out until Saturday).

I really just can't afford to be sick at all tomorrow, so I want the, at least, mental peace of mind knowing I have that Sub to lean on if I feel I need it.

I've taken Oxy on and off for over two years. I have pretty good discipline when it comes to this stuff. I mean, in that time, 15mg will still give me a decent buzz, and 30mg will have me "high."

When you say physically sick, do you think that's dose dependent? I.E, the person took too much? I've been doing a lot of reading on bupe and it seems they really synthesized it to be a pretty safe drug with its ceiling and blockade effects.

^ This was years ago, so I don't recall the dose. They were vomiting mostly.

After reading some of the bupe threads on Bluelight, dosing and effects seem all over the place for different people.

Understandable.

I see recommendations of 1mg for an opiate naive user and recommendations for .25mg for an opiate naive user.

To play it safe I'm probably going to take the tiniest chip I can flake off tomorrow and see how it affects me.

I'm not trying to turn my night into a pukefest.

First time sub dosages seem to be different for almost everyone i've ever seen do it. Of course it has to do a lot with tolerance but i have seen massive differences in people trying it for the first time that have no tolerance. I would try to measure out 1/2mg to start. I know it seems like nothing but getting sick on sub your first time doing it can be horrible. If your not feeling better in 45 minutes do another 1/2mg. Hope this helps.

start with a tiny crumb, you may be surprised. then half a milligram. you can get alot out of a little with sub, if this is your first time using it you are lucky because you can avoid developing a monster sized sub habit which harder to quit than whatever other opiate you were on to begin with.

Buprenorphine is very potent. As other posters have mentioned, start small, you'll feel effects very quickly. I recommend 0.5 - 1.0mg. That's my usual dosage.

I'm going to edit the title of this thread a bit to include the generic name for Suboxone (for easier searching in the future).

Yesterday I flaked a few tiny pieces off and took them at several points during the day. I'd say ~.25mg just as more of an allergy check. I didn't notice really anything in the way of effects nor did I feel any WD.

This morning I woke up in a mild state of WD and figured I'd give the sub a real go today. I decided on a dosage of about .8mg (very rough estimate, but it was just less than 1mg) and noticed a very strange feeling come up. Honestly too difficult to describe. About an hour later I just felt weird. It relieved my slight withdrawal completely but made me feel very mentally groggy. It was almost like I took a klonopin or something. Very strange. I also felt no euphoria of any kind of positive buzz. If anything it made me a bit agitated because I was expecting at least a partial buzz.

Works great for wd, but personally for me there's hardly any recreationAl value. It made me a bi nauseous also, so I don't even feel like taking a slightly larger dose next time.

Idk, it mostly made me feel strange and floaty. Definitely felt nothing like a full agonist in my experience.

Sub has always been hit or miss with me. The first time I was ever given it was by a friend of mine. They gave me way too high of a dose for my first time with my tolerance being so low. I believe I took half of a 2mg tablet. I ended up being horribly sick which made me stay away from it for a long time. The second time I tried it I took approx .5mg and it did the trick as far as not making me sick and keeping withdraws away, but I have to say that I do not like it in general. It has none of the "fun" effects that other opiates have had... I definitely don't think it's for everyone.
Be careful on re-dosing though, I once felt like the amount that I had taken was not working so I took a little more, as soon as the second bit had dissolved I instantly felt nauseous, it ended up being a horrible day or two.

Yeah, I'm getting more oxy tonight so I'm most likely just going to save the sub for when I want to quit again.

Just a weird, weird drug.

Can anyone comment on why it feels like a benzo to me? Or am I just improperly interpreting the effects?

Opiates share some of the same sedating properties as benzodiazepines. Your probably not aware of the feeling because your opiate of choice is oxycodone which is a lot speedier than most opiates.

Right on the money. This is why many people choose to mix oxycodone with a sedating antihistamine such as diphenhydramine.

OP, it sounds like you did too much. If your nauseous at all you won't get the 'feel-good' effects of the drug. In the right doses it definitely does have recreational value. Try a little less next time and see what happens.

so i'm just wondering unlike the OP i have a REALLY high opiate tolerance. 200-300 mg's of oxy per day. Any suggestions on a recomended starting dose?

nicksoutherland90: Well I'm given 8mg Subutex a day. Right now I only take like 4mg a day because I'm tapering off, but if I were taking 200-300 mgs oxycodone a day I'd definitely take 4-6mg's, and I wouldn't be afraid of taking 8. I used to smoke up to 500mgs heroin a day and 8mg bupe would be sufficient. And while 500 > 300 and heroin is more potent the heroin wasn't pure (probably unlike your oxy) so I'd still take around 6-8mgs bupe.
