Opioids First Time: Getting some methadone 5 mg tabs, will use for pleasure & pain.

OK. I'm scripted 100 30/500 cocodamol every 2/3 weeks also tramadol now & then. My tolerance to opiates is 300 mg codeine perdose (max) or 60 mg morphine.

What dose would you suggest i should try for my first experience with methadone? I'm thinking 10 mg but maybe i'll be moderate & do 5.

I'm only getting a few & yes i admit i'm looking foward to the recreational potential but i'm quite excited at the prospect of a long acting analgesic.

Any input would be much appreciated. Thanks.
 
If your tolerance is only 300mg codeine, I would take 2.5mgs of Methadone. It is strong & will take a while for the high to come on.
 
analgesic I'd say 2.5 would work, but for getting high I'd try 5mg off the bat. Wouldn't push it past 10mg first time for getting high with low opioid tolerance just so you avoid potentially feeling sick for 16+ hours. Especially with methadones weird opioid cross tolerance.
 
Yeah I agree with splatChrome. Methadones weird in that you can feel dosages of two mg, but that won't get you high. I imagine that 5mg will get you slightly buzzed, but methadone is really not that great of a high IMO, and it's a sure way of raising your tolerance.
 
Well when i said i do 300 mg codeine max i meant thats the maximum dose i'd usually take, however i've taken much more in the past & oft take up to 80 mg of morphine orally & i've done i.v morphine before. Furthermore i am very experienced with high doses of opium poppy "tea".

So i reckon i'll start with 5 mg, wait 3 hours & add another 5 if i'm not where i wanna be. Must say i'm looking foward to seeing what kind of pain relief it provides.

If you can take 80mg's of Morphine, then 5mgs of Methadone is perfect & Methadone is awesome for pain & imo, Morphine & Methadone are the best for pain & they both last forever...........
 
^Thanks man. I'll update if not here then on the pain management mega thread when i've experimented.

Also, i'm scripted oxazepam & was prescribed diazepam but now i buy them off a friend. I'm a tad concerned about the whole respiratory depression issue... If i were to take 5 mg of methadone in the morning would i be okay to take 10-20 mg of oxazepam or 5 -10 mg diazepam at night?????
 
I cannot for the life of me work out why people take methadone recreationally. For me, unlike just about every other opiate on the planet there is no high whatsoever. The whole point of it, and the reason why it is used for maintenance is that it is not euphoric. It is pure sedation, for me.

Having said that Doppelganga, 5mg is a good starting dose given your opiate tolerance appears to be minimal. You could probably do 10mg and still be perfectly safe with it. I went much higher than that with my first ever dose before I had a Heroin habit / much of an opiate tolerance, though was properly FUBARed. That is not to say you should push dose. Always start low with any opiate, and see how it affects you before upping dose significantly.

Bear in mind that the super long half-life means that you will still have plenty of it left in your system tomorrow. The effects are cumulative. If you decide to redose tomorrow half of what you do today could quite easily get you to approximately the same place. The same dose again could quite easily be too much. It's creepy shit. Be cautious then with redoses. You should also be aware that methadone is addictive in a way that makes heroin look tame by comparison in terms of the difficulty in coming off. Be very cautious with anything even approaching sustained use.

I quite enjoy methadones high. I mean I did kinda lose a bunch of the magic but it was my own fault. Really if you plan on getting high on methadone, use it once in a while, dose maximum 2-3 days in a row, and try to not dose over 50-60mgs (at this point it starts to lose a solid feeling high). It's not gonna give you any kinda of rush, its not gonna give you a blast of euphoria, instead its going to sedate you, leave you with a sense of strong well being (long lasting "lower" level euphoria), and give you a good nights sleep. I prefer a long lasting opioid high than a rush and 2-3 hours of feeling great. I've also loved tramadol and buprenorphine each at some point in my life (the higher tolerance I got the magic left both of them, but they used to be as good as any other opioid I've tried), so I am bit weirder than the avg opiate lover who puts heroin on a pedestal.
 
This of course depends on what you're game-plan is.

If you want to get fucked up I'd go for 20mg. That should be enough for a decent buzz without any crazy nodding, but maybe a little here and there

10mg would be more of a pick-me-up. You'll get a nice warm buzz that will last most of your waking hours. You probably won't be high though. It should definitely "manage your pain" well though, considering your only taking tramadol for pain.
 
When It would take 90-120mg oxycodone PO, or 20-25mg oxymorphone insufflated to make me nod, 40-50mg of methadone PO would have me nodding. Though, you can't dose it daily or that nod is lost asap. Methadone isn't friendly to daily dosing to get high.
 
god where was me reading this thread last year when i took 30mg after 120mg of morphine wasn't doing shit for me. the dealer on the street sold me the three 10s saying, "take all three, you'll be cool til friday.' more like puking til friday (friday being not the next day but the day after that). they were insanely cheap though. best of luck to you

Keif I think 20 mg will be a tad excessive & Ill go with a pick me up of 10. I was thinking of dosing in the am but now i'm thinking at night to get sweet dreams, however i do physical work tree felling from 7am til 3pm so would that have me too sedated if i've taken a dose the night before?

Splat I've used a couple of sources for opiate/opioid conversion calculation & from what i see 120 mg oxycodone orally the equivalent dose of oral methadone is like 20 mg or 180 of morphine po. I thought 40/50 mg of methadone po sounded excessive, but if i reverse the calculation, if you were taking 40 mg of methadone perday (chronic) then the equipotent dose of oxycodone would be 100 mg po.

Furthermore i take a benzos fairly often, was titrated off 40 mg diazepam per day last year & now have oxazepam 10 mg to be taken 3 times daily as needed, occasionally i throw in 5 or 10 of diazepam too, like at night or on saturdays when i usually have a hangover! Are these benzos likely to be dangerous as in to my mortality, when taken the same day as i've dosed methadone?

Absolutely yes. Methadone and benzos taken together have a synergistic effect, the whole being greater than the sum of its parts. The combination is commonly found to be responsible for overdoses resulting in death. CNS / respiratory depression will be markedly increased. Be extremely careful. If you must take benzos with it first get used to where methadone gets you on its own at a given dose, then take a lesser amount of it with a lesser amount than you'd usually take of the benzos. Treat with extreme caution.

As to doing late, and will you be hungover? The methadone will still have plenty of activity 12-18 hours later, possibly more. If you take enough to really gouch at night, you're still likely to be very gouchy the next morning.
 
My tolerance to oxy varies between 80-240mg depending on how long a break ive had, after 2-3 months abstinence 160mg will get me just fine.

What would be my safe Methadone intake to acheive what im looking for (first time Methadone user btw)

I also have them in 5mg tabs.
