I have a incredible connection for opiates, morphine and diluadids to be specific. I've been taking them for the past month or so, maybe a little less, and I've done dope 3 times recently as well. I didn't take anything for 1 day and the next day I was feeling my anxiety extremely bad, couldn't sit still, bad migrains (which I already get anyway, but haven't had any for a while), and since using I've noticed it hard to go to the bathroom, even pissing was hard for a while but it's seemed to die down a bit. I got some opiates today, and of course right after it kicked in I was fine once again, but I didn't even get a buzz from a decent dose of hydromorphone. Obviously I want to stop this now before it gets to a place that could be much worse, and I know I'm lucky I am realizing this now, but what is the best way to stop without feeling like shit? I don't even feel like doing anything, I can't make decisions on what to do either, and my anxiety shoots threw the roof, all if I don't have an opiate in my system. Should I slowly drop my dosage down? I know my tolerance has skyrocketted, and I have been taking morphine dosages that equal that of a couple dopeheads I know, so I know I started with too much, not to mention let my tolerance build fast. When you get 100mg mscotin tablets, and 4mg hydromorphone tablets for next to nothing, it's kind of hard to resist. Thanks for any replies, and I apologize if I seem to be nagging on a very small opiate withdrawl problem, because I do know there are people experiencing much worse, I've witnessed it myself all too much.

Yes, you should taper your dose, and you should do it pretty slowly. Make sure to drink lots of water, eat right, and get a little exercise, and it shouldn't be too bad at all. :)

Opiate withdrawl is bad shit! I've not been there myself but had close friends get sucked in.
There is no easy answer, at your stage, stop before it gets serious, deal with feeling crap, cause the longer you put it off the worse and harder it gets.
Just stop, don't slow down cause it's too easy to build back up.
If you want to get off them, do it now, while you can!

Benjy it's much easier said than done. Kitty knows what I'm talking about, and even though my usage hasn't been long, going cold turkey would make my anxiety unbearable, no sleep, feeling completely agitated. My eating has been shitty once again too, I'm losing weight and getting back down to where I was at when I was addicted to coke. I know I sound like a weak piece of shit complaining about mild withdrawls, but I have anxiety problems already, and without taking any opiates it's to the point of making feel like I'm going crazy. My doctor was tapering me off of my valiums, and I will admit I 'got rid of' my last script, I still have one left but it's not able to be filled until the end of august :( I will just stock up on the hydromorphone and taper my dosage down. If I end up buying more morphine I will end up just abusing it, damn opiate high is so nice, nothing compares to it. I really fucking hope I don't end up addicted to opiates, I finally have a nice chunk of money saved up, hoping to get a new car soon, I don't want to spend it on a new addiction.

mmmm yeah but without opiates the anxiety is unbearable - how is the anxiety more bearable when you have the anxiety of getting the drugs, and so on, opiate abuse is axiousful in itself. and then how anxious are you now facing a withdraw?

take your withdraw slap in the chops and dont go back to it - there are other ways to cut your anxiety and I'd be inclined to say to start looking at your anxieties and working out what they are, WHY they are and which of those are unnecessary so you can drop those... look at them and start to understand yourself before you pile in the drugs to cover it all up.

ie - I think to myself - ok I get anxious or stroppy when I thin about this.. (x,y,z) - but why? what's the problem? is this a pattern I am forming, is what I am worried about real? or just my head up my arse? if that makes me worried, how can I avoid that? or if I cant avoid that or thinking about that, then how can I change the thinking to put a positive in there? at the very least, what can I learn about myself from the fact i get stressy when thinking about x,y,z. how can I use that to get over it or change things.

that's how I think these things over. THEN get stoned!

stay off the opiates, there isnothihng to be gained from a new addiction. nothing GOOD to be gained, put it that way.

as for the wd's - yeah they'll be shit, and you are anxious about it, but it's temporary, it wont have you halluenating or crawling the walls for that doseage like really badly heavy users will, so you are getting off lightly in that respect - 5 days no sleep - and that's the worst part of the wds - so set your head around that, and take the rest on the chin

AND DONT GO BACK!"

Pomp, thanks for the advice, but you know as much as I do it's much easier said than done. I'm going to try my best, and I understand how much worse this can get, that's why I made this thread in hope to get over this before it turns into a full blown opiate addiction. What you said about the anxiety is exactly what my psychologist said, although I don't see him anymore, he wasn't going in the direction I felt was going to help me. I've tried to figure out my anxieties, think about what causes them, and what I can do to avoid them, but it's not easy. I would just grab some benzos and stop cold turkey, but I was prescribed to valiums for a while, and my tolerance for benzos is still very high, so I'd have to take so much to even effect me. But I also know that using benzos to help a minor opiate problem (addiction? whatever) wouldn't be too great either because I could end up having a problem with them as well.

yeah I understand that, but with respect - people (including me) say it's easier said than done (which it is, yes) to avoid having to try to do it.

I know because I do it.

phew. I guess maybe I have a different view because I didnt have the benfit of benzo's to help me, I didnt have any of that stuff, at best I'd manage to get 5 DF 30's to get me through a week's rattle after a £50 a day 6 months stint or something or if very very very very lucky, get 90ml methadone to come off with (godsend, I tell ya) - I am used to the cold turkey rattle and so in my head, I had to be strong and say to myself, well you had iut coming, you cant blame anybody but yourself so get your head down and get through it. (THIS Is FOR ME ONLY, I am very uncompromising on myself)

my view here is not the problemthat you have the wd's - its that you are probably going to get through the wds and then pick up opiates again. I have a problem with that.

just....fuck drugs. fuck 'em!! You dont need them,,, you dont need x,y,z drugs to come off and you dont need x,y,z drugs to stay alive...

you're well switched on dialated, I have every respect for you and I dont mean to sound like this, I suspect it's me being forum-weary, rather than anyhting to do with you - but also I say it to you because you're top notch and I just wory. I see you going down a path if you continue and I can see you seeing it and in that i see myself so hence why I am shouting at you. I am sorry.
xx

I appreciate all that Pomp. I know, like I've said already, I'm very lucky to have noticed this problem at the early stage, rather than too far down the road to just stop. I really want to quit cold turkey but just the 1 day off of opiates and feeling the way I did makes it hard for me to want to do so. However, if I don't like the minor withdrawl's I'm going to feel if I stop now, then I know I sure as hell don't want to go through a full blown opiate addiction, ending in horrible withdrawls that make me sick. One of my friends is admitting himself into rehab I believe for a heroin addiction, and coke addiction (he shoots up coke, but not dope anymore). I really don't want to follow any path like that, not that I really could exactly, as I'd never shoot any drug up, and that I know will never change.

I think I'm going to just taper myself off, I'm going to stock up a bit on the hydromorphone, set a limit for my daily dosage, and write up a weekly schedule for my tapering down, and stick to it. I am starting to notice myself actually thinking about opiates more recently, as I used to do when I had my coke addiction, so that's definitely not a good sign. Before I was just using opiates because they were at my disposal, not thinking of the consequences that would sooner or later follow.

And for all of you reading, please don't think I don't understand how much worse this could be, I honestly do understand that. I feel horrible for anyone out there experiencing, or have experienced full blown opiate withdrawls, because even these minor ones for myself make me feel like shit, so I can only imagine what it would be like, and hopefully I will never find out.

i'm in a very similar position to you right now, except with oxy & methadone. got a steady hookup, so was doing them recreationally mostly just on the weekends... then found myself getting bored during the week, sooo another night won't hurt right? or another... or another... i started doing them to ease my social anxiety when i went out, and it really did help. but when i started taking oxy while i was just sitting at home, alone, bored... nearly every night... i realized i gotta stop.

i was gonna taper, but ended up being cut off b/c the only source i had that was cheap enough for me fell through...

sux, but if you're not *too* deep in you shouldn't have any terrible physical w/ds... well, bathroom problems are probably inevitable, but if you're lucky it'll stop there... past that the only other physical symptom i've had is the feeling of wanting to crawl out of my fuckin skin, it's this weird feeling that comes on suddenly and just makes me so extremely uncomfortable, it's hard to explain unless you've felt it, but there's really no way to remedy it that i know of :-/

my biggest struggle is trying not to replace it with another bad habit. i'm taking tramadol right now cuz it's what i have, and since it doesn't actually get me "high" or barely even buzzed, i can space it out a few days so my tolerance doesn't shoot up.

anyway, just lettin ya know im in the same boat, and im interested in seeing your progress & how it's going for you. please keep us posted!

i found, that i was almost too sick to even want to dose (due to w/d), that was my situation the past 3 weeks . i unfortunately relapsed (methadone) yesterday, so ill have to deal with it. luckily, i KNOW i wont be using any time very soon. its strange how altered certain habits become..

This thread has made me far more wary of my own habits, it's reminded me how easy it is to fall into a physical dependance... I just hope I can suceed in doing what many before me have failed in and be a sporadic user only.

Your connection sounds a lot like mine did, morphine, dillys, xannax, klonpin, somewhat rare barbs all for dirt cheap. Quit now while the withdrawal will be light. I went 3-4 months like that heavyduty and the withdrawals were hell!

opiates and withdrawal are such a funny thing. you do more and you feel better more and then you hurt more. you say you are planning to taper, well I haven't met a lot of junkies that could quit VIA the taper method - however, you might be unique because your condition won't be that difficult.

the only way I could quit opiates successfully was cold turkey.

Thankfully, I too have never experienced the full on opiate withdrawals. Sweats, anxiety, shakes and a little bit of stomach pain was as bad as it ever got.

I also think you should go cold turkey. If the wd's are not that bad yet (thank god), you'll just get off the stuff faster. Get it out of the way. You may suffer for a couple of days. There's plenty of other things (pills specifically for) to cure the anxiety issue.

My connection has decided to go on vacation without telling me, so now I'm stuck with no opiates, and I have no benzos right now either. It seems to hit me by afternoon everyday, anxiety starts up, I can't sit still, hot/cold sweats, I'm fucking hating this. I know I wont be able to sleep tonight, and the only thing I have at my disposal is weed, and no matter how much of that I smoke, I still feel like shit. I guess I'll just go cold turkey, but I feel like complete shit and as much as I'd hate to say it, I'd much rather taper off then feel like this for even 5 days.

Oh man, what bad luck. How long is he going to be gone for? This is actually the best thing that can happen to you right now, because you will get one thing FOR SURE out of it: detox off opiates, which is priceless. Tapering is alot more comfortable, but it takes long and is prone to failure.

From the sounds of it, it doesn't seem like you are in too deep, so it shouldn't be too hard. Better now then later bud. Goodluck man, you'll be just fine. :)

aww man, you can do it!!! just don't start "tapering" once he gets back... that doesn't count :-p use this opportunity to go cold turkey, maybe it's just your destiny right now...

eek, just by saying you won't be able to sleep tonight, you've ruined your chances! i was feelin a mild w/d two nights ago, the feeling of wanting to crawl out of my fucking skin, being so uncomfortable & couldn't do anything to make that weird, crawling feeling go away... so going to bed was my relief, the only thing i could do to escape that feeling without taking something...

good luck, stay strong.

Thanks guys, I found that if I keep my mind busy I can feel a bit more at ease. Breaking up weed, and rolling a blunt, taking my time helped a lot. I think I called everyone in my phone book trying to find opiates tonight though :( I guess it's best he's on vacation, I have no idea how long he'll be away, but I was just invited down the shore this week, so maybe that will help.
