First Time Adderall XR Dosing

So, being in University, Adderall is pretty popular among students looking to study long and hard. It took a while, but I recently came into some.

I have 20mg XR's and was wondering if one of these is an appropriate dose for a first time. I am not looking to be recreational with it I'm just looking to find a good therapeutic dose that will help me with my studies, I have a ridiculously tough year coming up.

I've read other posts and seemed like 20mg XR would be fine for me, but just to make sure. I understand its releases over about 8 hours.

I am a 150lbs male. My prior stimulant experience is methylphenidate (what a waste), cocaine (pretty heavily), MDMA (also pretty heavily).

20mg XR could be perfect, it may be a bit too much but if you eat it on a full stomach you should be okay. It does release over 8 hours, but that's a pretty variable number, I'd say 6-12 hours to be safe. Certainly take it early in the morning and make sure you take it on a full stomach and drink plenty of water throughout the day.

Not a problem man. I'm sure you know this but for HR's sake I'm gonna mention it anyway, make sure you're eating during the duration of the experiences. I've used Adderall XR and Dexedrine XR extensively for studying and recreational purposes and I can tell you its easy to lock yourself in your room or get sucked into reading your notes at the library and have hours and hours ago by during which you haven't eaten anything or drank any water, and then the comedown is that much worse.

I'm going to edit the thread title a bit for easier searching. :)

Oh, one more question, if I were to take the 20mg XR on a full stomach like you said, how long should it take to kick in?

Yeah, everything that Neighborhood has said is right on the money, and there isn't much more that I can add. But I would like to reiterate the importance of forcing yourself to eat, and that's exactly what it may be, actually forcing yourself to eat. I remember there were times when I wouldn't feel hungry despite not eating a thing all day, and I would try putting down some food but would feel so uninterested in it. It can be a strange feeling, really. (I am a skinny guy to begin with and weighed 145 lbs before taking adderall. After one month of taking adderall, I lost 20 lbs and weighed 125 lbs. I could actually feel my hip bones when I would get into bed and try sleeping, not something that I would do very often.)

Also, you may want to buy a pack of gum just in case you experience jaw-clenching.

verso, you make an excellent point about the jaw-clenching/jaw-tension that amphetamines cause (not in all cases). Always a good idea to drive home the "you have to force yourself to eat even though food will taste like ash in your mouth" idea. I've lost weight since I've been using amphetamines more regularly as well. I know its hard to eat but you really need to. Take a multivitamin every day too. It really does help.

Chewing gum helps with this a lot, make sure you're eating and drinking lots of water.

So, I gave it a go, taking it on a full stomach, as you said. However, about 3.5 hours passed and didn't feel much of anything so I decided to take another, half crushed half not. Felt some decent energy, nothing noticeable psychologically, though. This went on for 2.5 hours before I took another 20mg, this time completely crushed up. I then, finally, noticed the stimulation and slight ability to focus better, but nothing compared to what experiences I've read and heard from friends. Got some jaw-clenching, though.

However, looking back on it, I notice the change more now than I did at the time. This is what a friend described to me his first few tries were like. Still don't believe I really noticed much psychologically. My last 20mg was at about 6pm and I fell asleep at 3am (only an hour or two delay compared to my normal sleeping habit). Also, didn't experience any sort of a comedown, which is good. I stayed well hydrated and (force) ate normally with good vitamin intake.

This is similar to what happened when I tried methylphenidate (a few times). Except with MPH I didn't get near the amount of stimulation as Adderall. But, still, no comedown nor great noticeable effects there.

I'll definitely use Adderall again soon, I didn't dislike it. Just didn't seem to effect me the way most people.
