So i recently decided to start cultivating my own mushrooms, non psychoactive species of course ;) & In my haste to start a new project i bought some growbags & a few syringes of spore solution.

BEGINNERS do not make this mistake, after a little research invitro bags are not the greatest way to start growing & the vendor that sells growbags gives directions for using the bags that grossly oversimplify the process of growing.
START with the PF tek. its more detailed, but in the long run it saves alot of time, money, & problems.

Being a beginner myself, i've decided to do as much research as possible before my spores & bags get here to find a way to make the best out of my situation.

THIS is where more experienced/knowledgable growers come in.

Would it be a good idea to inocculate my growbags & wait until the mycelium starts to form & then cut them open & use that substrate as a starting point for a PF tek?

You can generally do two things with mycelium once it has completed colonization and you have also waited a little extra for consolidation:
- Birth as cake, this just means allowing the hump of mycelium to grow mushrooms. Sometimes cakes are "dunked n rolled", dunking meaning submerging in water to absorb it (plus cold-shock the mycelium), then rolling in vermiculite as a protective layer.
- Crumble it into something like an aluminum oven tray. This will disturb the mycelium at first, then it will connect again in the broken up pieces and consolidate. Cover the crumbled pieces immediately with casing. This is a soil mixture layered on top that provides protection and water. This second method is pretty much 'spawning to bulk' and it is often not for true beginners.

Both of these preparations thrive absolutely best in a growing chamber such as a shotgun 'aquarium'. Things like that, you would have to build.

And yes sites like the Shroomery have excellent teks. What I said about birthing as one or several cakes would correspond to the PF tek I guess.

That one's good, but Paul Stamet's "The Mushroom Cultivator" is ace too. And not just for psilocybe mushrooms, it goes into all types of mush.
