In college, my roomate and i decided to get a big bag of mushrooms from our local "dude". Anyway, the night started out great, a bit of pink floyd, low lighting and with a full stomach we ate the whole bag together. it was an eighth of shrooms a piece. i had been taking mushrooms and smoking a hefty amount of pot for years before college and all through high school (it had a therapeutic and disciplined effect on me which caused me to graduate top ten percent academically in my class) back to the story though. that night was different and i knew it thirty minutes after eating all the shrooms. instead of the euphoria of tripping i actually felt poisoned. it was like something inside of me was telling me it was bad, like a bad batch. Anyways, as the real trip began i began to see super violent images (demons, people being murdered, sick people, my own skin ripping into pieces like cheese being cut with a knife) it was unlike anything i have experienced before. i felt as if i dissolved into atoms and i came to a stunning realization that i was floating in the universe. the whole world dissolved around me and i became one with everything. the only problem was that my atoms were melding into everything. the couch around me the world around me melded into me and i knew i was freaking out. i had heard of people acid tripping and losing it permanently. i pictured that there was no longer a god and i could actually hear my roomates thoughts, which i accurately relayed to him (a phenomenon we still can't explain) things got worse when i felt that i couldn't get back together, i wanted the trip to end buti it wouldn't. it was a totally odd feeling and quite a bit terrifying. i came down in about two hours after that and i was sure it was bad shrooms, my first encounter with them.very scary shit indeed...

I'm sure it was quite a ride. Shrooms can be just as strong of a trip as acid, to terrifying levels.

I need to have another terrifying trip soon, they're good for shaping up :) hell to go through but the rewards from such a trip aren't immediate.

aww thts bad... i've had shitty trips on shrroms too but its ok u can laugh bout it later! but why blame shrooms :)

That sounds more like a spiritual experience to me than a bad trip. Please realize that the experience is only what you make of it. Powerful psychedelics often cause a great deal of fear, especially if you're inexperienced. Any powerful psychedelic trip is often going to be terrifying at points, but you have to extract what you can out of what you're given. It sounds like your experience with being one with the universe and reading your friend's thoughts was quite profound. If it were me, I'd consider the trip a wonderful one, despite the terror you surely felt at times. Hell, all of my most significant trips contained terror and worse, but on the other hand also contained indescribable beauty and profundity. Such is the nature of truly psychedelic experiences.

Think of it as a bad trip, and the negative implications of that phrase can haunt your memories. But think of it as a learning experience, and it can go a long way towards providing you with a load of understanding and comfort in your day-to-day life.

Good luck, and thanks for sharing :)

Also, perhaps your thoughts of there no longer being a god were just your immediate interpretation of what you were experiencing. Consider that perhaps god is you, and all of us ;)

Also realize that you didn't get "bad shrooms". That's just the nature of the mushroom experience. Every trip I ever have on them is a combination of the worst experience of my life and the most beautiful and significant, all wrapped into one.

i have to agree with xorkoth, for the most part.

i would describe that as a 'breakthrough' experience on shrooms, when you have a complete sense of ego loss (as you described as 'becoming one with the universe'). i feel if you push it far enough with shrooms, that is the place you'll end up. i no longer take shrooms as i had that experience, and now whenever i take them, i just feel too uncomfortable.

/try some LSD if you haven't!

great post, Xorkoth..
certainly something I would show to friends that want to try shrooms but know very little (and are too lazy to go into a deeper research, as that lazyness wouldn't make me deny shrooms to friends).
I don't have a vast experience, but your post tells much of what I think about psychedelics. Not much to add for iamsexyromeo, I can only agree with you.

But a little doubt, iamsexyromeo, you say you have been taking shrooms since high school. At the end of your post, did you mean "first encounter with bad shrooms"? Well, I really don't think there is such a thing. I think shrooms are all about the same, unless you got laced shrooms which I guess should be quite unusual, and your report seems just like what one could expect from psilocin.

The day after my bad trips I get quite a glow, as does a friend of mine. How was your day after?

well.. time to reach the alprazolam and sleep off the c..
