Not sure if this is exactly the right forum but it seems pretty close.

I live in the US in a state that has some pretty strict gun laws. I was looking at getting a pistol for recreational/range use.

One of the many requirements for even an ownership license is a background and mental health check. I am currently on suboxone treatment. Do you think them running these checks would show this treatment and disqualify me for the license on the grounds of unfit to own a firearm on mental health/drug abuse reasons?

screw all that nonsense. Just buy one off the street. Way easier and takes like 5min. Plus, you get more selection. It's not like you can walk into a game store and buy automatic weapons. good deal.

If you have a conviction or any court-related treatment referall I'd think it would show up. Obviously felons can usually never own firearms.
I had to swear I wasn't a drug addict & get run thru the State Police system to buy a pistol. (That week I think I was sober ;-) )

Many states still allow unrestricted 3rd-party sales .. Only Federally-licensed dealers have to do checks [brilliant eh?]
Nothing like rolling stoned with a homie selling Aks and Glocks midday in the Walmart parking lot.
Do you have to register guns with your state?
The Dems want more 'accountability' and oversight of sales, so get 'em while the gettin's good.

No I don't have any convictions or legal problems; I went for treatment on my own.

I have to register guns; pistols anyway, and I'm guessing the lower receiver at least for a AR-15. Just like you had to swear you weren't a drug addict and go through the State Police, I'd have to do the same thing. But can I say "no I'm not a drug addict" when they could presumably easily pull up my records and see Suboxone treatment?
