Hey guys, I have a question on how to fully quit my benzo taper. If you want more info on my previous use see here: http://www.bluelight.ru/vb/threads/642036-Kicking-a-severe-benzodiazepine-addiction

Anyways, I've been tapering from five months use of 900-1,400mg Temazepam and 30mg Alprazolam daily. I've been tapering for about five weeks now. I started at 30mg Diazepam per 24 hours (spread out, don't want to go into exact details), a week later I went to 20mg every 24 hours. After that it went to 15mg, lowering by 2.5 per week. I should be on 10mg every 24 hours (or 2.5mg every 6 hours) but I noticed about a week ago that I'm way ahead of my recovery schedule and that I could take WAY less than I was prescribed and still manage to get through the day with a very minute amount of withdrawals (just slight joint pains). About 3 days ago I started splitting my 5mg pills into quarters, taking 1.25mg every 12 hours for a total of 2.50mg daily. So, essentially, I'm 400% ahead of my schedule with my doctor. I haven't told m doctor because my mother holds on to the extra pills in a locked safe so there's no possibility of a relapse.

My question is, how long should I stay on 2.50mg daily before I drop to 1.25 daily? A week? Also, after that period, how long should I wait before fully cutting all benzos out of my daily routine?

Thank you in advanced.

For some reason you can taper really fast, and starting on that dose of diazepam after what you'd been on really sounds too good to be true. I would taper how much your doctor says to by though, or at least tell him what you're doing.

Yeah, i don't know this is kind of a scary post. To be honest i can't even believe you can type after having been on that high of a dosage of benzos. I mean, wow. I would probably consult with your doctor on this one, i've never heard of such an extreme case. But either way, congratulations on getting down to the dosage you're at now, it's pretty incredible...

your like you didnt have a seizure and convulse... that fast is unheard of..

now that your getting close to being on none at all, what id do is keep on the 2.50 for at least a week or two, then the 1.25 for a couple weeks, then id even go as far as .50 if your looking for the least amount of withdrawal pains, if its possible to get that small of a chunk from your pilll.
Thats just my advice from my history of trying to taper..but like everyone said you moved a little fast, so i would check in with your doctor quick to make sure your plan is solid, but good luck brother

I can get 2.0mg pills from the pharmacy instead of 5mg pills so I could split those into 0.5mg chunks.
Is there any negative side effects of tapering this fast if it's working? I feel fine so it makes me feel like I can do it but if there's dangers (aside from siezures and convulsions) then I'd like to know (possible permanent receptor damage?).

The only possible effect I can see is that it's possible that your psychological response might not have caught up with your physiological response yet. Meaning that you might feel the effects of the taper much later than expected, causing acute distress.

Keep up the good work, been there done that nasty coming off that stuff. The hard part is keeping off the benzos I found so its a work in progress for me and i mix it up with stims and opiates when i can get them so i dont get hooked on one drug...just many varieties to keep it interesting.

A small update and question: I tappered myself down to the point where I only needed 1mg Diazepam to alieviate withdrawal symptoms, I was taking 1mg every 24-48 hours. Last Thursday at 5am was my last dose and I stopped taking any benzodiazepines all together. So, tomorrow at 5am will be a full week. At times I feel like crap, my skin feels like it's crawling, etc, but overall I feel generally good.

Am I still at risk for seizures? I'm almost 99% sure I'm clear of them but just wanted to confirm with a few other people.
