Finding vegetarian capsules vs. gelatin capsules (for the sake of my tripping vibe)

Despite not being a vegan (or a vegetarian, really), it bothers me that almost every gelcap I can find is made of gelatin. If I do locate vegetarian capsules, they are invariably size 0 or larger.

The reason this is an issue is because the minute I start tripping, I become a total vegan. I don't want to use or eat any kind of animal product. When I'm tripping, I won't kill a mosquito if it's sucking the blood from my arm in front of me. Let's not get into a discussion about how stupid that is, because it truly *IS* stupid of me and I recognize that.

Shit, at the same time that I'm worrying about eating a chicken mcnugget, I have a leather wallet in my jacket - so I recognize the hypocrisy here. However, when I hit that ++ or beyond, I don't want to bring any kind of harm to any living creature of any sort. For this reason, it has started to bother me over time that my caps are all gelatin.

Has anyone had any luck finding a good source for vegetarian capsules in non-standard sizes (2,3,4) and in smaller lots? I always run into capsuline but they sell in bulk quantities - I don't need 1000 or more capsules. The pricing isn't bad at all, but I don't want to be wasteful.

Thanks, and my apologies if this is skirting some kind of sourcing line.

Unfortunately, I don't think you'll be able to find vegetarian/vegan capsules in quantities less than bulk. However, I can relate to you on becoming a vegetarian upon consuming a psychedelic substance. Though, I suppose a better word for me would be humanitarian. I instantly take off all unnecessary clothing, and usually find myself walking around in the grass barefoot with nothing but a v-neck and some boxers. Extreme comfort.
And for some reason, I seem to bond with animals a lot more on psychedelics. In fact, the cat that I "have" now, I discovered on a walk around the neighborhood on 20g fresh mushrooms. He just walked up to me and we had such an immediate bond. It was ridiculously spiritual. Even bugs, I feel, I can bond with. It's truly incredible.

Doesn't seem that stupid to me. But then I am a vegetarian...

I never even thought about capsules being animal products. Silly me

Did you steal someones cat? haha

Buy some cheap vitamins or herbal stuff that comes in vcaps. I've never bothered to buy capsules in bulk, easier and not too much more expensive that way.

BTW, playing with cats is amazing while tripping!

100 milligrams of gelatin is an exceedingly small amount of animal product to be worried about. All the vegans/vegitarians I know don't care about stuff on this scale.

I think buying some vitamins sold in veg caps and dumping them out is the best option of you're looking for just a few capsules.

I thought I might have after I brought it home. But the next morning, it turned out that it actually had belonged to one of my roommates in the past who had recently lived a few blocks away.
Blew my mind.

Again, I totally agree. However, once I get into a trip, it becomes less about logic and more about concepts - and the fact that my gel caps that are delivering chemicals into my body are made of animal byproducts puts a little damper on things.

There is no avoiding gelatin - it's in everything. The binders in our legitimate medications, in our candy, in our food - it's everywhere. It's just that in that psychedelic state I get all these thoughts about purity of intent, substance, and experience... and then the gelatin bothers me.

I think I'm going to just buy in bulk. It's a waste of 25.00, no doubt, since I already have a ton of gelatin capsules. But I would gladly pay that 25.00 for the sake of a "guilt-free" trip.

search "vegan/vegetarian capsules" into google... not expensive.

Drop like 10-20 dollars on a bag of capsules, your going to get a much better price off the Internet. Your not going to find like 20 vegan caps on sale from anyone, unless you find someone who decided to buy bulk and give them to you.

We were talking the other day about how none of the vegetarian people seem to care about gel caps.

Tripping usually makes me pretty vegetarian, unless its 2c-x.... Which gives me tripping munchies, and ill destroy some food, meet or not....

The thing that does kill me about this is that I can't find colored vegetarian capsules, at least in size 4 or 5. For the sake of safety, it would be nice to put compound x into red and white caps, compound z into blue caps, etc.

Just get 1, 0, or 00 for size, going to be the most common ones you will find.

Take a sharpie and write what the capsule is on the capsule, or throw the capsules in a baggie and write what it is on the baggie.... Or hell, just make them recognisable by colour.

A red line across the capsule for one, and blue for another.......

i first went vegetarian after being inspired by/told by the sacred mushrooms to do so....

6 1/2 years deep....feelin gret :D 4 1/2 vegan, and tuning in with raw foods now :D oh yeah, i'm one of those guys.

not to say that you should do the same...but your pacifistic tendencies could be something 'you' are yearning for on a deep level of self (or being).

when i open the doors of my consciousness i do what i can to not only learn through my thoughts and considerations, but also through my feelings. this might sound out there to some people, but the study of my feelings, and the focus on 'tuning in' to them, has yielded a very empirical union of scientific logic with intuitive wisdom...at least on a personal level: that is to say, i do not assume consciously that 'i know' what is right or wrong for others...but the meditative experience of 'hearing' my being's cries for rightness and love has led me to a very solid understanding of what is right and wrong for myself.

through my studying of how i feel during any given activity, or during any discussion, or while thinking a certain thought, i have been given a vibrational interference-like spectral diagram...:D
that's where the empirical resurfaces, after i tune in to my deep feelings (through psychedelics or meditations) i retransverse the corridor between inner and outer, between my thoughts and my 'feelings', between my wisdoms and my intellectual mind....and as long as my energies are centered and my life is 'in its place' than my mind can naturally arrange itself (based on the frequencies, or maybe magnetic qualities of the given emotional experiences) to an according thought pattern, therefore giving my an intellectual reference to the seemingly esoteric experience.

now, lol, like i said, it may not be right for you to do so...
if you take any advice from me i'd say learn meditations...not like go to classes, well maybe whatever you want...but just go sit outside and clear yourself...and if you can't clear yourself, then watch yourself be unable to do so..you'll get it soon enough :D

i feel if you study the experience of 'tuning in' to the ideas in a mediative or 'clear-consciousness' state you will have a very solid understanding of what is right for you. with tripping there's always that element of the newly-reborn ego shrugging off 90% of the lessons you told yourself(or you were told)...justifying its own logic and saying it was all just delusion :) that crazy ego

and i'm saying this not to get you to be vegetarian...or vegan..:) though if you read this post in binary and/or play it backwards on a record there is peta brainwashing encoded :)

but really, i know a lot of people who while tripping are grossed out by the idea of meat....i had one friend, who getting overwhelmed on his first mushroom explosion started out of the blue saying all these good things about the earth...lol, even though he wasn't the type to proclaim such things, i was the hippie ;) i could feel he was scared from the trip, but he was feeling it naturally right to 'align with the earth' and almost apologize for his arrogance in the matter previously.

for me, there really is a vibrational interference that is very visible...originally in meditations or psychedelic experiences, but now it is visible all the time. different choices and difference principles really do cause me to interact with the world differently....and whether or not one believes there are 'entities' out there judging or showing favor/frowning upon, it seems to me that there are strong currents of energy around us and 'who we are' or 'what we choose to do' effects the way we interact with them.

the more we are 'in tune' with our emotional connection to the world around us the more that we can feel the inherent realness in 'doing the right thing'. at least thats how its been through my experience :) long read, hopefully not too boring. enjoy :D

oh yeah, and i DO care about the gel caps....lol i don't do research chems or molly or anything like that though. nothing i get comes in caps lol

but moreso than even the bodily effect of a little bit of gelatin. some vegetarians or vegans do so only for their own benefit, for the high, lol. but most, do so as a petition against the system of farming or 'animal ensalvement' (not meaning to argue if this is the case, lol, that will derail this shit). and the vegans doing so from the heart should know that every 2 cents counts...symbolically and literally...every purchase supports a certain trend, and every person who will accept a product from a company is monetarily supporting the trends of that company...supply and demand.

lol, like i said, not to argue the point of vegan vs. eat-whateverism but just to rep the vegans/vegs who actually carry the petition to a t...and i am one of them :)

Capsuline has vegetarian capsules at a reasonable price. Think you have to buy about 1000 of them, but its only like $20, and for all intents & purposes, that's a lifetime supply. The colored ones are a little more expensive, but they do have a couple colors in size 1

I was able to buy veggie caps in a local complimentary/alternative/herbal medicine shop. In small quantities (100). But I live in an advanced nation, Scotland.

Admittedly they were big (00), sorry, I missed that; why's size an issue? Had no problems eating or plugging them.

@isaac sinclair

Absolutely, yes, volumetric dosing is a great way to go. However when I am sitting on a gram of something that is dosed at 10-20mg, I feel much safer putting it into capsules then I would putting it all into vial of water. My fear is that someone will get a hold of the vial without knowing the concentration. Preventing an OD is my absolute priority. In a capsule, I can know the exact weight down to the microgram per pill. If someone wants to be reckless, they'll have to eat multiple caps, as opposed to just dropping an extra few ml into their drink. I also find this stuff easier to transport when it is in small capsules.

@knockando

I've seen veggie caps in the 0 and 00 sizes, but when you put 12mg of 2-C-E into a capsule that can hold half a gram, it looks "unprofessional" to me. It's what I'll wind up doing, no doubt, as they are easier to fill, but a size 4 or 5 capsule would be much more appropriate for the volume of powder.

@any major dude

Yeah, I kept looking at capsuline's veggie caps. I just didn't want to buy a 1000 capsules. They have size 4 vegetarian caps, which is probably what I will buy. I wish they made their extra small vegetarian caps colored like their gelatin ones though... Those black and whites and red and whites etc. are super cool, and safer for sorting in my mind.

@thoughtsUnThought

Thank you for your reply! I did read the whole thing and I paid attention. I really appreciate the thought you put into it. I thought it was insightful. I think you are dead on, particularly this line:

but your pacifistic tendencies could be something 'you' are yearning for on a deep level of self (or being).

I have known for a while now that I am going to wind up a vegetarian ultimately, or at least something very close to it. I still eat poultry and fish, but less and less as time goes by. I'm not sure I will ever be vegan though. My dad has a small farm, and he has some heritage chicken and turkey breeds. I don't see anything ethically wrong with eating their eggs, as they aren't stuck in a cage in a factory. They free range in the day, and then go to the coop at night on their own. It's actually pretty fun to hang out with them.

When I trip, I never set out to expressly learn something about myself. But by paying attention to what my core beliefs and feelings are when my ego is knocked out of it's normal state, I have learned a lot about who I truly am as a human being.

This is what I did to identify different chems in clear caps, with what I had at home. After I weighed the amount, I added colored sugar crystals to the cap, before putting the powder in. It's sold in the baking isle of any supermarket, and if somebody in your home bakes, chances are you might already have some on hand. It comes in many bright colors, and it's cheap. However, it is possible, that the food coloring added to the sugar, is an animal product. Personally, I only like to keep 1 or 2 filled caps on hand, I have no need for more.

Dunno if it's been said yet but ebay is great for buying vegetable caps in bulk. :) I just bought some yesterday.

I am mostly vegan, and don't take gelcaps.
However, veggie caps take a loooooooooong time to digest, and this can change your plans a lot.
Please be aware of this, because it would be a bad thing to wait 3 hours after taking some veggie caps, and decide that the drug was not working, and take more.

Personally, I just put the drug on my tongue.
I have not yet found a drug I couldn't handle the taste of.
I have gnawed a San Pedro cactus to the core, and that was about the worst I have experienced.
(Wouldn't want to do it again, so now I extract into a smaller volume.)

^They really don't take that long to dissolve (not nearly three hours, I feel the contents within minutes regularly), pop one into a glass of water and watch what happens... Your stomach is not water, of course... it is acid.

Look on Amazon for vegetarian caps, they are great for this sort of thing.
