Finding specific information regarding chemicals...

Afternoon all,
Apologies if I'm covering old ground here, but it appears that the search engine is kind of screwed at the moment and I can't spot anything on the first few pages so I figure I may as well ask. I've been looking into the feasability of an amphetamine sulphate cleanup using solvents (in the same way as a meth cleanup would work)
In order to find out if/how well it would work, I am trying to find out specifically how soluble various substances are in various solvents. (Specifically amphetamine sulphate, glucose and acetone, but that's not important)
What I would like to know is whether there is any way I can find definitive answers to my questions. I mean - someone must have sat down at some point and worked out exactly how much cocaine will disolve in exactly how much methylated spirit etc etc. IS there anywhere I can find this out without needing a degree in chemistry?
I am aware of the merck index, which often gets referenced in answer to chemistry questions, but after doing a brief google for "merck" and following links I got stuck in an endless loop of links to other places. Do you need to pay to actually use it? Is it not even online at all? Would anyone who knows how to use it be prepared to give me a brief "idiots guide" to using it? Or alternatively is there somewhere else I should be looking?

It doesn't have quite what I'm looking for unfortunately.
Ideally I'd like to know how many mg of amphetamine sulphate will disolve in how many ml of ??? at ? degrees...
 
msds - material safety and data sheet. you can find some online if you look hard, some chem distributors will sell em to you, and there are some web sites with databases of them. they cost money too, though. try google and hope you get lucky.
i never used these for dissolving info, but if they do have them, they will be for a specific pressure and temp. most likely 1 atm and 300K. actually, i doubt you'd need the information for temps and pressures other than that anyway.
 
Just go to google & aske what you want to know in question form. 99% of the time one of the first three replies will give you what you want. The link is at the end...

Well thanks to everyone who has helped so far - I am a little further in my investigations thanks to your advice. (day_for_night - I will certainly try doing that. I have, unfortunately, forgotten my password for that place, so have to wait 48 hours while they mail it to me, but I will go there monday morning)
I wonder if I could ask another question (and try to avoid looking like a retard in the process :D )...
So far I have found that amphetamine sulphate is
One part dissolves in 8.8 parts water, 515 parts 95% ale.
I am presuming that that 95% ale is a typo. Should it be alc - refering to alcohol? If so, which alcohol does it refer to? I vaguely recall from school that there is an entire chemical family called alcohol (alkenes and alkanes or something?) Is 95% alc the same as meths?

Well ether is no good - glucose (the most common adulterant in UK speed) is also ether insoluble :(
Unfortunately when I look for chemical information, it usually quotes solubility in only ether or water.
Proposed alternative: Is there any way to calculate a substances solubility in another substance? Like I say, I am no chemist - but I can operate a mathematical formula, and it's fairly easy to find out molecular weights and whether they are polar or non-polar. Can I calculate?

Also not a chemist but I think the answer here is no. I mean some general approximations might be possible to calculate but I think there will be exceptions based on the specific shape charges etc.. of the molecules under consideration.
 
I doubt the "ale" is a typo for "alc". That's too general. mehtanol? ethanol? propanol? etc..
 
Unfortunately I'm gonna have to check and see if I can find any more specific information about glucose and amp. sulfate on monday when I can get access to my sources of info(i.e. university library), so if you can wait until then I should be able to have a specific answer for you in regards to using ethanol. However if your in a hurry and want your stuff now you could always try an A/B separation using NaOH, Ether, and 10% Sulfuric Acid. Unfortunately all of those substances can do you serious bodily harm if used stupidly, so unless you know your way around a chem lab, I'd just wait till monday.
 
Because ether is a very good np solvent, and the principle behind this A/B extraction is converting a water soluble salt to it's non-water soluble freebase and having it migrate from the water which it was previously dissolved in but is no longer soluble in, into the ether which it is now extremely soluble in.
 
Ok, well I went to the library today and did some searching around. Most of it was unfortunately a wild goose chase as I found some articles which may have been promising, only to find out that my library did not have physical copies of just about all of them. In any case I did find out that 1 gram of glucose dissolves in ~60 ml of alcohol. So combined with the fact that one part of Amp. sulfate dissolves in 515 parts of alcohol, you may be able to successfully wash your mixture with several small amounts of alcohol and take with it all or most of the glucose, without having it take away a noticeable portion of the Amp.
 
Prob not to much help.. but rxlist.com has some of that kinda info for class 2 and 3 chems.. rhodium could have stuff too.
 
rxlist does have at least some solubility data for prescription drugs but it's probably not a great source.
the CRC handbook of chemistry and physics has very detailed solubility data (Ksp values and tables of solubility at different temperatures), but only for some very common substances. you would probably find them for glucose.
the merck index has qualitative information on solubility and *sometimes* gives numbers (like 2 grams per 100 mL or something).
detailed solubility data are actually really hard to find, and remember that solubility varies widely with temperature.
