Final chapter in Melb Gang War - Carl Williams dead

Quote:

Recently deceased gangland ringleader Carl Williams has made headlines again and this time for his conquests in the bedroom.

News Ltd reports the convicted murderer boasted that officials allowed him a night in a Geelong motel with two Tasmanian prostitutes.

Carl Williams is said to have told a close friend of the alleged 'night out' a fortnight before he was bashed to death in Barwon Prison in Melbourne on April 19.

A Victoria police said, 'Corrections Victoria has never approved prostitutes to visit Carl Williams in jail.'

But Mr Williams' ex-wife Roberta told the Herald Sun her former husband often hinted at such deals.

Carl Williams was serving a minimum 35-year sentence in Barwon's-high security unit

I know it's not really all that relevant, and may not even be factual.

But I thought I'd post and let you guys decide.

I would've thought if something like this happened though, they'd be some girls trying to take advantage of the situation and sell their story. Or maybe thats what happened?

^A very good point. Have to wait and see, I guess.

This annoys me a little. The government doesn't supply me with prostitutes, and I probably need them more than dear old Carl.

Probably been mentioned well before now but I believe it was apparent among the underworld that Carl was assisting the police in some investigations. So he was silenced.

Sadly humans being humans I doubt Carl getting ganked is going to stop future generations getting up to mischief in the same way they have in the past. What has happened before will happen again :)

And look who's walking now that the case against him has fallen apart. I wonder what could have prompted the OPP to drop their charges? :\

I'd like a royal commission now, please. :|

Gangland kill case collapses

May 28, 2010

MURDER charges against a former Victorian drug squad detective accused of killing police informer Terence Hodson will be dropped next week.

The Age has been told that the Office of Public Prosecutions will formally apply to have the charges against Paul Noel Dale withdrawn in the Melbourne Magistrates Court next Friday before the disgraced policeman makes a claim for legal costs against his former employer.

It is expected magistrate Peter Reardon will then strike out the charges on the court record.

Dale was charged in February last year with the murder of Hodson, a drug dealer, at the height of Melbourne's gangland war. Hodson and his wife Christine were shot dead in their Kew home in May 2004.

A career criminal, whose identity is suppressed, was charged with both murders. His charges will also be withdrawn.

The charges against the men can be re-entered at a later stage if further evidence is found.

Dale is accused of organising the murder of Hodson to prevent him testifying against Dale and former detective senior constable David Miechel over an attempt to steal $1.3 million of drugs during a botched robbery of a drug safe house being used in a covert drug squad sting.

Miechel was subsequently jailed but the case against Dale collapsed.

Victoria Police set up Taskforce Petra in 2007 to investigate the Hodson murders.

The Office of Police Integrity held a public hearing in 2008 to investigate whether serving police officers attempted to sabotage the taskforce's probe into the killings.

The investigation revealed links between police officers and criminal elements and the OPI recommended that Dale be charged with conspiracy to pervert the course of justice and misleading the office.

A murder charge against Dale became possible only after key witnesses agreed to give evidence in the case.

The witnesses included one of Melbourne's best-known criminal barristers, Nicola Gobbo, who is now suing the state of Victoria, Chief Commissioner Simon Overland and his predecessor, Christine Nixon, for putting her safety at risk after she agreed to testify.

Ms Gobbo covertly taped a conversation with Dale in 2008 and later signed a statement after, she claims, repeated police urging. The Age believes that Ms Gobbo could also apply for costs next week.

Other witnesses included George Williams, ''Little Tommy'' Ivanovic and the Hodsons' son Andrew.

Dale has always maintained his innocence and declared during a bail hearing last year that the case was ''a conspiracy by the OPP''.

Lawyers for both accused have attacked the credibility of the Crown case and several witnesses. They were recently told that the legal proceedings would cease.

Both men's lawyers are expected to also apply for costs against the Chief Commissioner.

Legal sources have been suggesting for weeks that the case, which has cost many millions of taxpayer dollars to mount, would be withdrawn.

A former Victoria Police anti-corruption investigator, who is familiar with the Dale case, described the lead-up to the current situation as a circus. ''In the murder of the Hodsons, Victorians should know that justice has gone missing in action,'' he told The Age last night.

Dale's parents, Jenny and John Dale, of Yackandandah, were told yesterday by solicitors that the charges would be dropped. ''We're very happy,'' Mrs Dale said last night. ''It's been wrong from the start.'' But she feared the drama might not be over, with the chance charges may be laid again. ''I can't trust anybody.''

bit pattern, you want the whole story? I don't know it all, but here's one thing I can tell you:

Carl Williams was the "secret witness" against Paul Dale. His death (and Nicola Gobbo's withdrawl after the police failed to protect her properly) effectively killed the case against Paul Dale. You're not supposed to know this fact! Well here it is - let them send me to jail!

I gather that Paul Dale was accused of leaking the "Hodson dossier" (which labelled Terrence Hodson as an informant) to Carl for him to arrange Hodson's execution. Carl was leading the government on a ride, "promising" testimony against Dale in return for a bucketload of favours, includeing the now-infamous night with the prostitutes, paying his dad's tax bill, his daughter's school fees, etc, etc etc. Let the truth be said! PASS THIS ON!

Thanks for posting that link bit pattern, it was a good read.

To the above poster, you may well be right, but all anyone can do is speculate. It is pretty shit it looks like Paul Dale is going to walk but what can be done about it. The cops are so fucking filthy they can't get their shit together, they still can't even nail this asshole and theres no doubt in my mind he has been replaced by 100 new corrupt fuckers.

Nah, he's dead right, that's why I posted it in this thread, it's an open secret but the media can't report on it because of the stifling suppression orders that are plaguing the legal system atm, so instead the reader is forced to read between the lines. I like that article because Andrew Rule and co. walk very close to a very fine line and reveal as much as they possibly can without crossing that line, they make it pretty plain as day for anyone who has followed their coverage and is able to pick up on the strong hints they drop (like bringing up Dale's relationship with "Little Tommy" Ivanovic, he was in the cell block with Carl when he was bashed, iirc he was the one on the phone). As I've said over and again, this is why we need a Royal Commission, blow this shit out into the open and form a corruption commission like every other state has. Also, it's worth watching the Andrew Rule video, if it's not on that page it will be linked to somewhere, he gives a run down on the case and very strongly suggests that if any new evidence comes up then Dale can face trial.

^ I came back in here to post the reference to "Mr Z" in the Sunday Herald Sun. Seems pretty obvious now it couldn't be anyone else. Too bad it seems the case has died with him.

I dunno if "marathon man" Victor Brincat is still alive. He "rolled over" and became a witness against Carl Williams. His testimony wasn't needed in the end when Carl pleaded guilty. He was moved to "protection" in prison (possibly interstate) and will probably spend the rest of his life in the witness protection program. He, like Carl, is an "unspeakable" (a "protected witness", not to be mentioned by name in the media anymore).

BTW in case this isn't self-evident I HOLD THE VICTORIAN COURT SYSTEM IN CONTEMPT.

Here's an article by Derryn Hunch (Hinch, but I think this typo was a Freudian slip). You can find it at http://www.hinch.net/hinch-says-2010/May/28-05-10.html but it has since been modified for legal reasons. I knew this was likely to happen the moment I first spotted it, and made sure to email myself a copy immediately. Here is the original:

STRANGER THAN FICTION

We are awash with violent crime. Both in real life and on the movie screens and on television. Next week Animal Kingdom hits theatres nationwide -- that gripping new movie about a psychotic and brutal cop-killing family. It is fiction but based on real and bloody events in Melbourne in the 1980s. Then there’s Underbelly now in its third season. It exploded on to our screens with the events of the gangland war of Gangitano and Gatto and the Morans and Carl Williams.

It has been followed by docos on a slew of slayings by real life crims from Ivan Milat to Carl Williams and Victor Peirce of Walsh street infamy.

And there are more real cases you don’t even know about because of the avalanche of suppression orders pouring out of the courts. The Weekend Australian magazine was banned at the eleventh hour last week which meant people could read it everywhere in Australia except Melbourne., A bit like Underbelly Series One which has still not been aired in full in Melbourne.

There have been cases involving a convicted drug dealer and alleged killer which you can’t know about because of suppression orders.

And all this is in the headlines today because of dramatic developments over the murders of drug dealer and police informer Terence Hodgson and his wife Christine. They were executed in their Kew home in 2004 when he was due to testify against former drug squad detective Paul Dale over an alleged attempt to steal more than $1 million worth of drugs during a botched robbery in a covert drug squad sting.

(I tell you nothing in fiction can match the facts in Melbourne during the underground drug war.)

Dale’s partner, former drug squad cop David Miechel was jailed but the case against Dale collapsed.

Next, Dale was charged with murder –accused of organizing the execution of Hodgson who was to testify against him.

Those charges will now be dropped. You wonder if the full story will ever come out. Witnesses against Dale were to include well-known criminal barrister Nicola Gobbo who reportedly wore a secret wire to bug a conversation with Dale. She was in police protection but has now turned and is suing Police Commissioner Simon Overland and his predecessor Christine Nixon for putting her safety at risk.

Also due to testify were George Williams (father of Carl) and ‘Little Tommy Ivanovic who was in maximum security with Carl Williams when he was murdered.

You are entitled to speculate whether or not the holidays down the coast and the prostitutes for Carl (and I’m told even a pedicure) were in exchange for testimony. Evidence that cannot now be given.

If, in fact, it was the death of Carl Williams that led to the withdrawal of charges against the former drug squad cop then even more questions arise about how well protected a crucial witness was. And what was the motive behind his slaying? This truly is stranger than any fiction.

BTW, can someone set up an anti-suppression-order site where we can "name names"? It would obviously needed to be hosted overseas in a jurisdiction which the long arm of our secretive justice system can't reach. Perhaps the folks behind the pirate bay might be able to help?

For those of you who don't yet know...

A vicious former copper by the name of MATTHEW CHARLES JOHNSON killed Carl Williams... Perhaps to protect another corrupt former copper.
