Just wondering if people had ideas to make the filtration part of CWE go faster. I want to use coffee filters as I believe that to be very efficient, it takes forever but today I picked up some commericial coffee maker filters (the bigger size ones) does anyone have any OTHER ideas other than rubberbanding them to a cup? I was going to try using a bowl with this bigger filter (hence the idea of a bigger surface area = more filter area...) but does anyone have any better ideas?

You could conceivably line the inside of a sieve with a large enough filter and periodically roll the solution around so the filter doesn't clog as quickly and it filters faster as a result. You'd have to ensure it's sealed properly to avoid contamination.

But if your main concern is safety, I'd just let it filter over a longer period of time. Agitating the solution will just let more APAP into your final step.

I made a vaccum filter out of a thick plastic bottle to which I fitted and glued a side arm. I used a funnel that fitted into the top of the bottle and came down below the side arm. This is important so as not to lose liquid to the suction. Everything needs to be relatively airtight. A vaccum cleaner attached to the side arm provides the vaccum and filters in a fraction of the time it would take using only gravity.

If the vaccum is too strong the filter might rip. I recommend using several coffee filters one over another.
