films: Where have the Scary movies gone?

^I think your right it was Friday the 13th,wasn't it freddies dead the final nightmare? Not sure why 3d didn't catch on more.
I watched "the ring" the other night after putting if of for ages due to bad reports.I was actuall a tad scared for the first time in ages.Turn all the lights of and watch it on your own, you'll get what i mean.8o

I thought Saw was pretty disturbing (in a Se7en'ish kinda way) when I first saw it ... but then again, I'm sure every movie gets somewhat disturbing if you watch it whilst you're sleep-depraved and stoned out on hash and dxm.

Final destination 1 was pretty good...it shook me up just a LITTLE BIT THO.
There is this one movie about an evil tooth fairy , the title escapes my mind
I think Sixth Sense was pretty nice too.
Also...um...DAMN if i really want to get scared, i just watch Omen 1 or 2 ....i love that movie.

darkness falls? If so that is one of the worst 'horror' movies i've ever seen. When the movie was over you could hear almost every person in the theater getting pissed off.
I would suggest anyone looking for a scary movie to stay far, far away from this one.

I thought 'House of 1000 Corpses' was garbage, and not nearly as violent as everyone seems to think.

The original 'Texas Chainsaw Massacre' is very disturbing in my opinion. If you're looking for dark, unnecessary gore, try any of the Hellraiser movies -- I think there are 5 or 6 now.

I think I'm the only person alive that didn't see IT until sometime in the last year. Consequently, I thought it sucked.

I remember Event Horizon scaring the shit out of me, though. Probably because I watched it alone in a basement at 2 am years ago.

I thought IT was crap because I read the book first. The movie has nothing on the book whatsoever.

I bought Event Horizon recently and it is still a great scary movie with the exception of the "typical" black guy saying some annoying things at one stage in the movie.

The original Evil Dead is a great movie and the tree rape scene is highly disturbing. A fucking tree raping a girl... A fucking tree... weird...

Your right the original "chainsaw massacre" is how a scary movie should be,plus its so old now that the grainy footage kinda adds to the atmosphere.I've got the remake too which is not so good and the third of the original series"Leatherface" which was more funny than scary.

Actually, 3D horror movies were made all the time in the early 80's. Back then VHS VCR's didn't exist. And hardly anyone owned a beta.

I clearly remember people having VHS's all the way back to 1980 for sure. It was invented in 1978, by JVC and Panasonic.

Betamax was invented in 1975, and the early 80's were (by Betamax standards) the glory days.

I was in my teens in the 80's... and there were very few 3D horror movies. You're about 20 years too late.

Dementia 13... Night of the Living Dead... Little Shop of Horrors... Creature From The Black Lagoon... you need to go back to the 50's and 60's to reach the heydey of 3D horror.

I don't really get scared by movies but Event Horizon came damn close, probably because the first time I watched it I was sleep deprived. If you liked the first 2 Cube movies they made a third called Cube:Zero, I enjoyed it. Also, not extremely scary but a good movie anyway is "The Last Horror Movie" it's kind of an indie film so I'm not sure how easy it will be to find, I just dl'd it.
