Ok, so I was thinking today of all the movie scenes that give me goosebumps when I watch them. Whether it be because of how powerful it is how beautiful is it, how emotional it is, the music it uses, yadda yadda yadda..

Then I thought I would post a thread to get some other peoples opinions.

And here I am.

My top 3 scenes would have to go to;

Sunshine - The scene where he jumps from the spaceship to the bomb thing-o.
American Beauty - The plastic bag scene.
Requiem for a Dream - The final montage scene.

What are yours?

Some of the scenes from the Green Mile
Like you, the ending sequence of Requiem for a Dream.
The ending sequence of The Prestige
Ending of Donnie Darko

I know there's more but thats what I can think of for me atm

I'm going to be a bit of a whore in this thread. First up, the greatest...

The Good, the Bad and the Ugly - Three way standoff (Scene)

Once Upon a Time in the West - Two scenes, the opening and another (Scene 1 Scene 2)

Paris Texas - "The Talk" (Part 1 Part 2)

Apocalypse Now - Ride of the Valkyries (Scene)

Picnic at Hanging Rock - The ascent and disappearance of the girls (Scene)

Goodfellas - "Then He Kissed Me" (Scene)

Deliverance - Dueling Banjos (Scene)

The Lord of the Rings: The Return of the King - Ride of the Rohirrim (Scene)

Mary Poppins - Step in Time (Scene)

I'm with you on Paris Texas and Ride of the Valkyries EJ, both great scenes, some of the scenes as the boat traves further up the river in Apocalypse Now really get to me too as everything slips further into madness.

Thought of a couple more as well:

Irreversible (french): The scenes in the club at the beginning

The Shawshank Redemption: The escape scene + its discovery

Full Metal Jacket: The sniper scene

Schindlers List: several scenes but notably Schindlers departure, and the footage before the credits of the holocaust survivors visiting his grave.

When those Styrofoam bunny people dance to bloc party. Then the entire crew turns into rabbits. Then they had sex. God, yes.

When Piggy loses his glasses....and when he gets hit by the conch in Lord of the Flies.
:(:(:(

When Heroin Bob dies at the end of SLC Punk! Matthew Lillard's scene when he finds him dead is highly emotional and moving.

The scene in GoodFellas when Jimmy decides to kill Morrie and Cream's "Sunshine of your Love" starts playing. Not sad but a great part.

Opening minutes to Saving Private Ryan.

The scenes in "Blow"with Ray Liotta (George's dad) in them.

There's more but I can't think of them right now.

^ Good call on opening minutes of SPR.

- The very last scene in Ordinary People. Oh god, that hug. So cute.
- The last scene in Life is Beautiful where Guido is able to maintain the game regardless of the circumstances (really vague but people who have seen it know what I'm talking about... I really don't want to ruin it for those who might not have seen it. :)).
- The scene in Sophie's Choice where she chooses.
- Scene in The Bicycle Theif (Ladri di biciclette) where... uh... I'm sorry, I have to go with the whole movie.

I'll have many more. I'm an emotional type girl. ;)

The one that comes to mind instinctivly is the ending of the 60's movie Von Ryan's express when Col. Ryan (Frank Sinatra) is running after the train, reaching out to be pulled up. He's just about there then the german soldiers shoot him dead and the train passes safely into switzerland without him :( I bawl my eyes out every time!
A useless bit of trivia but in the book Ryan manages to get back on the train and they all escape safely but earlier in the movie Ryan shoots a german girl that was gonna blow their cover and Frank Sinatra insisted to the producers that Ryan must die at the end to 'atone for killing the girl'. The studio weren't too happy as they were planning a sequel but hey,who argue's with Sinatra!

Anyone else actually seen this movie? I know its an oldie but its a gem

- The final scene of The Fly. Brundlefly-Pod begging to get shot in the head gets me every time.
- The chestburst scene in Alien.
- The helicopter rescue in Superman.
- The entire running time of For All Mankind.
- The landmine scene in The Killing Fields.
- The ending of The Wicker Man (the original, not the Nic Cage remake)
- The "lobotomization" of HAL in 2001.

- The ending of The Wicker Man (the original, not the Nic Cage remake)
excellent suggestion. for me, one of the most powerful, shocking, thought-provoking, terrifying, beautiful set pieces in movies. everything great art should be.

i'm a sentimental fool but i love the scene in dead poet's society when they all get up on their desks at the end.

also, the restaurant scene in as good as it gets when he tells her "you make me want to be a better man".

the dinner scene with the envelopes in festen.

I still love that scene, but over time I've grown more detached toward the melodrama leading up to it. I used to really connect to it; now it just strikes me as overcooked.

If we're including television episodes in the discussion, I nominate the last episode of The Shield. Even months after the fact, the scenes with Ronnie getting hung out to dry are still uncomfortable to watch.

When bambi's mother gets shot and killed in Bambi. Brought me to tears on Blu-ray.

Used to cry like a bitch when I was a kid to that scene.

Full Metal Jacket. When the fat kid kills the DI

Definitely an amazing scene in cinema.

I also think the scene in American History X where Derek hops out of the shower and the video of him and Danny when they were kids plays. Always sends me shivers. That and the final scene in the bathroom.
