films: Recommend a movie from another country! (Non english speakin plz)

Isn't it called City of Lost Children? French film, yes?

Just watched it a few days ago, a very bizzare and surreak film which I watched to the end out of morbid curiousity, wouldn't say I actually enjoyed it.

I take it by this you mean you don't want something too artsy fartsy.

The Battle of Algiers is a hell of a movie. It tells the war of Algerian independence from both the French and Algerian perspective.

Au revoir, les enfants. Personally, I've seen enough holocaust movies to last me a life time. But if you haven't, get this one. It was blessed by the pope!

Stalingrad. Germany's answer to Saving Private Ryan

If you're wanting to get a movie with an otherworldly feel, you could just get a really old American movie. Early Charlie Chaplin movies take place in a world that, more all intents and purposes, does not exist anymore.

I don't know how I could have missed Stalingrad, I just finished watching it, this movie blows my mind how cruel war is, even more so because this movie is based on WWII eastern front reality , and it stirkes close to home. My grandfather was a solidier killed during second world war, and my other grandfather's family (parents, siblings) were burnt alive in a barn for colaborating with an enemy. It does not matter what side you are on, war is an unimaginable suffering and torment. Anybody going to war or any world leaders trying to start a war should watch this movie, this is history. "Those that fail to learn from history, are doomed to repeat it." - W. C.

The Pusher Trilogy from Denmark is great. "Pusher 2 : With Blood on my Hands" is my favourite of the series.
